β β β β β Went for a 6.30pm dinner with my GF on a Sunday, excited by the rave reviews, busy atmosphere, and delicious smells.
We waited for about 15mins before anyone came to even take a drinks order and by that time we had very well decided what we wanted to eat and had an appetite to suit. We ordered the mussels, grilled salmon, courgettes, seared scallops. Nearly an hour after we arrived and we were still waiting for food, with no attention / updates / communication from staff.
At this point we proactively sought an update and were advised it could be up to a further 20mins. At this point I started looking into some alternatives. Just as I was about to step out to organise, our mussels and salmon arrived - followed by our scallops and courgettes about 10mins later.
Mussels: Nothing to shout about. Not bad, but not something I'd come back for. The bread provided didn't have the 'soaking factor' either that you'd want to mop up the tomato and coconut sauce that the mussels were swimming in.
Salmon: This was something we were really looking forward to - Akaroa salmon in Akaroa ? Unfortunately, we probably could have saved time and money and delivered a better outcome by going to Countdown and doing it at home. The potatoes had the same taste, texture, and consistency of microwaved potatoes my dad would do when I was a kid.
Courgettes: The best part about this dish was the toasted almonds. The softness of the courgette didn't suit the truffle oil. Probably would have been better with the green beans as per the menu but they had run out.
Seared scallops: Easily the best thing we ordered. But in a pack of mediocrity I'm not sure if that's false praise.
Also had the Ma Maison Lager. Crisp and refreshing, as a lager should be.
Earlier that morning, my kayaking guide told me that the restaurants in Akaroa township weren't worth it. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to think she wasn't kidding.

β β β β β Really nice experience, food and drink are good, service is friendly, and location and view in spectacular. But wish they had more drink (cocktail) choices, and the toilet was nicer (cleaner) and bigger.

β β β β β Friendly service and our beef fillets were cooked okay and served beautifully. Unfortunately I have had better steak meals for far less money and because of that and the casual beach-vibe of the restaurant, I really felt that $43 for a steak was just horrifically overpriced. After ordering some mash as well (since the steak only came with 2 small green things as per the photo) the meal for two cost us $95 - NOT including drinks. Itβs not that I didnβt like the place, itβs that when Iβm paying that sort of money I want to feel like Iβm there for the experience of a night out and absolutely incredible flavours and it really didnβt feel like that. I also mistakenly thought it would be a French restaurant due to the name - itβs definitely not. Wouldnβt go back to be honest.

β β β β β We've been to Akaroa twice and both times we've chosen here for dinner.
The food is always amazing and the service tonight was espicially on point.
Friendly and helpful without being too pushy.
Next time we're in Akaroa we'll be back for dinner. Sorry you other restaurants...

β β β β β Had a lovely lunch, went back for breakfast the next day.
Risotto was delicious. Eggs & salmon a winner.
Probably the best hash brown Iβve ever had in my life.
Looking forward to our next visit, hopefully on a sunny day with cocktails out the front with that water view.
Highly Recommend.

β β β β β Nice, but nothing amazing. Really good service, great location, but the food was OK. My vegan breakfast needed more flavoring, maybe something extra, especially for the price. My meat eating husband said about the same for his breakfast offering.
While we would be happy coming back it will be after we try a few other options in the town.
