L	Laura Irwin on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful old cottage that has been refurbished very tastefully. Fantastic location with the pool just across the street and two fabulous restaurants within walking distance. A charming and peaceful place to stay.

Generally no problem with the cottage although it is aging and tired in spots, but it is an old cottage so that is part of the charm. Cleaning and servicing not up to grade. Created enough suspicion that I decided to test the eggs left for breakfast. One was bad.
B	Bernadette Frost on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 10 of us booked for a weekend in Ophir 7 of us at Pitchers and three booking at Maranui Lodge. Gorgeous home (Maranui Lodge) BUT it was advertised as breakfast included which was very lacking! Two containers of breakfast cereal in an otherwise empty pantry, no milk in sight even to use this cereal. Very frustrating !! We found out the manager lives in Ophir which left us more amazed that even a carton of milf would have been easy to pop into the fridge, maybe a tin of fruit! Advertised as tourist rail trail we suggest you ignore “breakfast included”. Mouse/rat check would be advantageous too !
N	Nick on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good looking place on the surface and tastefully decorated, but lights were very dim, heating in the main bedroom didn't work for a very cold night, the shower plumbing was reversed which took a while to work out while having a tepid shower, and our breakfast supplied was pretty bland. All of which doesn't make one over the moon for starting the rail trail again that morning. Not what we experienced on the rest of the rail trail. Kids enjoyed the tv in their rooms for some down time and the house is really nice, but the details matter.
M	Maarea Karetai on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If ratings were given for number of TVs, then this cottage would get 5-stars. HOWEVER, most of the remotes had flat batteries so they were useless. Even worse were the breakfast provisions, these were the poorest on the Rail Trail i.e only 2 x small packets of butter for 4 x guests, small individual packs of ordinary cereal and the hot water ran out after 3 showers. Great decor, but it means nothing if the breakfast is terrible. I wouldn't recommend it.

Almost every room has a TV, the beds are comfortable, and there are plenty of places to enjoy a beer or coffee. Unfortunately there are plenty of dead flies in the window sills and the outside is not maintained, the gardens are overgrown and there are solar lights that are broken over the property. Also as a side note there was no ironing board or iron in the property; we had to go down to the local pub to iron our clothing. All-in-all a three star lodge, would easily be 4 or 5 stars if the outside was maintained.
