★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went to have lunch with my sister, we ordered and sat down inside. while waiting we notice one of the staff cleaning the air vents above the area they were cooking. We than noticed that they had chicken and chips and other foods stores in containers without lids right next to a rubbish bin. We asked for a refund and walked out. Had a look at their food grade from the council and it said pending. Would not recommend to others or go there again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went to the Manukau branch after being impressed by the Newmarket branch. What a difference! Rude staff who act like they have better things do. Even though we said 'eat here' they packed everything like takeaway. Couldn't sit inside the shop for some reason. They just told us we would need to sit in the food court. Food was alright. Otherwise would have given a one star

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wouldn't recommend their pork, prawn and chives dumplings in spicy sauce, sauce is way too oily and dumplings unlikely has any prawn. Felt tummy sick an hour after.
New market branch is way better.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Maybe we just ordered the wrong meal but their chicken bao convo left us feeling gross. Chicken was bland except the taste of grease. Tasted like the chicken and chips had been deep fried in a grease trap. Store was not clean. Reit was not cheap either.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I discovered this place around beginning of last year and I was so impressed. The food was good, the staff was nice and their portions were big. Now this restaurant has gone downhill. They have stopped serving the free condiments and keep them behind the counter and are so stingy when you ask for a second tub (tiny) of chilli oil. Their portions have gone smaller and prices up. Just not the same. Won’t be going here again and I use to be a regular here as it was near my office.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After i ordered we sat down to wait, watched unbelievably as a guy proceeded to spray and wipe the air vent on top of where food is prepared, looked down and saw cooked food uncovered and right next to an open rubbish bin. We had to refund our money. No one wants food poisoning just before Christmas

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bought D13 beef flat hand pulled noodle soup and the meat was incredibly dry and had what appeared to be mold??! Not sure how mold can grow on dry beef but it was there. I returned it and just got given another menu item. When the manager showed the chef he seemed completely disinterested, and I was not offered a refund just another menu item that I had no choice over. I really enjoy master bao but this experience has really ruined their image in my mind. If you go here I recommend only buying bao or anything but the noodles as the second item I received had green flecks on it, might be normal but I definitely cannot eat it after being served mold. In their defence they gave me a can of Coke so all is well, I guess.
If anyone from master bao is reading this, in future make sure the food you are selling is safe for consumption and please offer a refund first if the food is tainted.
