★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It amazes me how some places in Auckland never change and thankfully Mellons Bay is exactly that. Great views if you are looking to park, relax, eat lunch, takeaway dinner and take in the evening atmosphere. There's seating benches, street lighting, parking. There is Waiheke Island on the horizon to compliment that skyline encouraging you to take that break from suburbia. Lots of evening walkers enjoying the walkways along the beachfront. During the day it's always great seeing families having winter picnics when the suns out. Summer is busier but not chaotic in contrast to other local beaches. Mellons Bay is worth that time out with family and friends without needing to drive far.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is always great with the upper carpark giving amazing views out to the eastern end of Rangitoto, all of Waiheke and more. Today was extra special as Team New Zealand Emirates was out practicing for all of the hour and a half we were there. Grandstand views and only driving a couple of kilometers, they practice out there quite often. Did the walk along the beach and rocks to Howick beach, got to be careful to ensure you have adequate footwear and watch the placement of your steps, but this is a relatively safe walk with spectacular views both out to the sea and the cliffs. The cliffs are an amazing study when you have read a bit about their history and makeup, really fascinating. Fantastic walk

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small beach with a river dividing it, full of tiny stones and shelves. It is the only one swimmable in the area, so took advantage of it and jumped into it. Water was incredible cold, so could stand few minutes. Usually there are plenty of dogs around but today was not the case. It has a toalet, but not shower. Amazing view to Waiheke Island. Fishing is also doable there. Will come back eventually.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely beach to go for a walk, went for a walk at low tide. Lots of bird life running around, and many interesting things on the beach to look at. There are quite a few spots along the beach to sit and watch the ocean. Will definitely be back to go for a swim at high tide.
