They didn't give a refund or credit voucher for 8 days car rental when we had to return the car early due to Covid lock down. Not a good experience when all other providers gave us credit. Mode's 'risk free' Covid booking policy isn't 'risk free'.

Easy pickup. Friendly no hassle and you never feel like you are being ripped off at any time. Great service. Would defo hire from here again.

The manager bent over backwards for us after mistakenly booking the car through booking.com which wanted a $3000.00 hold to hire the car. Great car and service and solved the book in ng com problem.

Don’t waste your time. I've been holding off leaving this review as I had hoped Phillip McIntrye the CEO of Model Rentals might be able to resolve our issues, but he seems more keen on keeping peoples hard earned money for a vehicle we were unable to take due to a bald left front tyre and incompetant staff. If you are keen to read into more of our experience... read on. We flew to Queenstown and we’re picked up by one of Phillips staff who appeared to be disappointed who complained about his low wage. After listening to the team member complain about how he was paid poorly… we paid a $3000 deposit only to be shown a car with a bald left tyre. We asked Mode for another car or if they could take the car across the road to get a new tyre. When I started asking about tyre safety limits the staff member walked away and could not answer my questions. We had to go find him and another guy hiding out the back. With no one to help we decided to call Mode Auckland who informed us they could not help but a supervisor could call us in a few days who we never heard from. We then decided to ask for a refund of which they refused. We also asked if they could take us down the road to another company which they also refused until I started getting frustrated. We ended up booking with Go Rentals who were amazing!! We’ve been dealing with the CEO Phillip McIntyre who is great at taking your money and avoiding questions. In short he has no integrity as a business owner and I can see this is rubbing off on his employees who appear to extremely unhappy.

Terrible experience with Mode rentals. Upon inspection of the car we had booked at Mode Rentals' Queenstown branch, we were concerned with the state of one of the tyres, which was almost completely bald around the perimeter of the tyre. We raised our concerns with the staff on duty at the time, and they were unable to answer our questions, and in fact avoided us completely. They were extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. We did not feel the car was up to standard so ended up cancelling our booking on the spot. The staff initially would not agree to drop us off at another car rental company. After some discussion they finally agreed to take us to GO Rentals no more than 5 minutes down the road. We made numerous attempts to contact people within the company, as the Queenstown staff were unable to assist us in any way. We were promised emails and phone calls that we never received. We were passed between various administrative staff who we had to repeat our issue to over and over again. They were still unable to help. We finally resorted to contacting the company director, Phillip McIntyre, who informed us we would not be getting a refund for the car that we never used. We had many questions to raise with him, however he simply avoided the questions and took no accountability, which, in reading his response to other bad reviews, appears to be his style. We informed Phillip we may have been inclined to take the car had his staff been able to address our concerns and answer our questions on the spot. He insisted that he would not give us a refund and that the car met the "minimum safety requirements" for a WOF. We called him out on his lack of integrity and poor approach to safety and customer service. You would think any company would aspire to sit well within the boundaries of safety requirements and decent customer service, however Phillip thinks it is acceptable to do the bare minimum. Don't bother with this company. I recommend using GO Rentals instead. They were professional, helpful and accommodating.

From booking to drop off, this was by far the most efficient process we have ever had with a rental car company. They are the only ones who actually have an online booking process where we literally got off the plane, were handed the keys and got on our way. Every other company we have used ask for paperwork to be processed at the site, even after having booked and confirmed online. Car was exactly what we wanted All the staff we interacted with were friendly and accomodating.

Great vehicles, price and service. Have just finished my third week-plus rental. The first two from Christchurch (Camry, 2-person campervan), and recently a Rav4 for 11 days from the Queenstown branch. A simple online booking process. Really helpful and courteous Mode staff for all 3 rentals/returns. Vehicles clean and very well maintained. Deposit refunded quickly upon return. Great company to rent from!
