Diane is the founder of modes and is a fashion mogul, serving her loyal customers at modes in New Market for 40+ years. Diane has gotten to where she is today as she knows fashion and she knows her customers, her hard work, honesty and integrity is truly inspiring. She is the past president of the Newmarket Business Association and established the mainstreet program. Diane’s pet peeves are what she describes as ‘transient’ fashion, ‘fashion victims’ and slavishly following what celebrities are wearing.

I am an opera singer and have regularly needed dresses to wear, you walk in and they all know your name, smile and give you a hug. The clothes it the best quality in New Zealand. You can’t get better for the money. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ball dress shopping with my 16 year. I was nervous, she is 16 and is like many 16 year olds, navigating their first special occasion dress, wanting to feel beautiful and special.
We could not have had a better experience.
We were lucky enough to meet Fred straight away who was kind, welcoming, very experienced and gentle. He knew his stock and quickly established what she wanted. He has a huge range of beautiful gowns, all different styles and sizes.
What made our experience stand out was that he had the skill of understanding the personality of the customer very quickly and within a couple of dress try ins we were struggling to decide. The huge smile gave it away.
On site seamstresses to pin and tuck gives you the confidence that it will fit perfectly. A noticeable contrast from well meaning staff elsewhere who suggest “you can easily sort that at a tailor” when it’s not physically possible.
We cannot rate our experience highly enough. Thank you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We traveled up from Hamilton to find a ball dress in Auckland and had visited many shops before stepping into Modes and what an absolute treasure and breath of fresh air it was to find someone like Fred who helped with choosing a ball dress for my daughter. Extremely pleasant, helpful and knows his stuff… But It wasn’t just that he was helpful; he went above and beyond to find something that suited our needs and genuinely cared about the “end look” our daughter was after. He has an eye for detail and found the perfect dress for us in the end. We felt as it he had the time of day for us even though he had other customers to tend to as well.
The professionalism, genuinely caring and kind nature of Fred meant our whole experience of “finding a ball dress” became a wonderful core memory. If your looking for a ball gown or have a special event… go and see Fred at modes… he will not disappoint!!
Thank-you Fred for being so wonderful and lovely to us, Sara loved her dress and looked amazing on the night!
