A small walk from the car park and a short descent underground leads you under this impressive arch. Take a torch so you can go into the many side caves and caverns to see all sorts of creepy crawleys. Forllow the path over the top of the arch through the luscious rain forest to get spectacular views of the arch. The track follows a loop back around to the main carpark and takes about an hour.

The track to the Moria Gate is really nice and the Arch itself is very special. A must if visiting Karamea and the West coast.

Make sure you have a good car, the road is really small, it's hard to see if there is traffic coming so because of that and that it's a long gravel road you can't really drive fast. We had a bit of a dangerous feeling in our tummy but we were already going and turning is not possible so just kept going forward. Its the same parking space as for the Opal walk track. Some nice information boards about the area and toilets. We were walking on the track to the moria arch gate and it was already a beautiful walk with nice trees. Suddenly we could also go to the right, to the moria Cave! We walk to it and it looked really dark, slippery rock stairs with a chain next to it on the rock wall led us down in the cave. Once we were down it was an amazing moment WHAT, SOOO BEAUTIFULL!! It was not dark at all anymore there was a river going true the cave with two openings on both sides bringing in a lot of light. Such an amazing 'discovery' and at that moment we were there all alone (me and my mum), only saw people later on the track. We went out the same way to eventually see the Moria arch gate spot, definitely also a site worth seeing, could not beat the cave though! We walked further and saw some amazing trees with different shapes before we were back at the parking lot. Had a drink and a snack, went to the toilet and braced ourself for the long way back on the gravel road. Was a bit easier now actually, knowing what to expect.

A great spot for both adventures & photography. It’s just a short walk from the car park through a bush. Some fan tails & NZ Robins we’re spotted there too. The entrance to the Arch is not tall so I had to bend myself to walk through (downhill). It can be slippery so be careful.

Really picturesque arch. Neat access through a cave to get under the arch. Nice walk in with great birdlife calling out in the trees. Saw a Black Tobin up close too on the walk. It is worth the bumpy gravel road to get here...

Beautiful place with large NZ natives. The walk was great and the view spectacular. About 3km looped. The road to this place is rough gravel. Rentals be ware

One of the beautiful germs of New Zealand tucked deep in the West coast. you have to get there by a small vehcile and drive on a gravel road for like 7 km. We enjoyed this easy hike and you can discover many smaller hike in this area in a whole day. This is the information I got from the DOC site: From the main Ōpārara car park, walk through original old-growth rain forest, featuring kahikatea, rimu and moss-covered trees. Follow the track to beautiful Moria Gate Arch, the track continues over the arch, highlighted by the paving stones embossed with the footprint of the extinct moa who once walked here. Continue past the turn-off to the Ōpārara Valley Track, after a final glimpse of the Moria Gate Arch. Along the track look out for bush robins/kakaruai, weka and, if you are lucky, kākā. Take care to avoid the giant land snails (powelliphanta) that sometimes cross the track. You have to squeeze in a cave opening to get through to see this Arch. Enjoy

Nice scenic cave u can go in. Just will be so dark at the steps down. Take good care of ur self. If u steadily climb down amongst the rocks, then u will see this view their. If u visit Oparara Basin Arches, this is one of its walk tracks. Public toilet is available but I did not notice any dustbins located. There is some notices set up and inside those buildings, seating and tables available if u wanna enjoy some food with ur travel companions. No network coverage.
