★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Love this place.. worth the hike to see the views. It's around 4km one way to the top.. first 2km steep, then rolling climbs to the bush line.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Turning off of SH1 onto Kaimanawa rd drive to the urchin camp sign turn right and follow the sign to urchin track, it's gravel rd from here and is about 5kms to the car park. Roughly around 15 spaces for cars. The track starts off up hill straight away and there's only couple of flat spots to help the legs out lol, once you get out of the covered walkway you're almost to the top, from here you follow poles that mark the way to the trig point. The walk/hike is well worth the views on a mint sunny day looking out to Tongariro and Lake Taupo
