Not an easy walk up, a bit of climbing, in some parts you have to hold with your hands, but the view is rewarding. Be careful and enjoy!

Beautiful views - 360 degrees when you get to the top. Probably could be better sign posted but as long as you get to the beach and turn right and keep walking you will find it. Maybe too steep for some, but it is not too bad.

Awesome view of both New Chums and Whangapoua at the top, worth the steep but short climb up.

Amazing views of a special beach. Difficulty of about 7 out of 10, I took 9 year olds and they were fine so be careful if your kids are younger. Some serious climbing sections can be tricky so be aware if you aren't the most mobile person. But it's worth the effort, stunning views.

Amazing views of New Chums, Whangapoua and Matarangi. Well worth the effort! Beware of steep slopes, slippery rocks and tree roots!

Parking is at Wangapoua - new chums beach carpark, with two areas to park, there is tables and seating also has toilet. Start off by walking across the beach where you'll come to the 1st signboard then continue along the rocks where there is a ruggered trail and you'll come to a proper walkway then another signboard from here you can turn right and go up to the lookout or go straight which takes you to the beach

One of the best beaches on north island, white sand and very clear waters !!!! Advise to hike in decent shoes not sandals ! The first 10-15min walk are all unstable rocks along the coast, then it’s 15mins on flatten dirt/rocks. If you wanna hike up to view point, there are no signs but a steep path on your right hand side just before the beach. A little bit of rock climbing towards the last 30meters but I’ve seen families with toddlers climbing it …. Don’t really recommend toddlers if the child is afraid of heights and climbing rocks as it literally slows everyone down sorry. No toilets or garbage bins on the beach so please do your part and pick up your own rubbish. Worst part is probably finding a park, otherwise worth the trip !

Halfway to the walk to New Chums beach there is a sign on the left saying private property, go right straight up the hill. It’s steep and you’re climbing up big rocks but is a short climb to the top but the view is AMAZING. It’s minimal effort for the reward of the view in comparison to other lookout climbs in NZ. Good level of fitness is needed and I probably wouldn’t go if it’s wet because you are climbing up rocks and roots. Not suitable for younger children unless you feel like carrying them up… 10/10 would recommend you take a time to clamber up. It’s a short climb from the turn off point
