Inedible- ate about a quarter and then just threw it out
I get honey chicken from glen eden and henderson noodle canteen and it is so amazing! This is the second time I have ordered it from royal oak.Tried it about 8 months ago but just brushed it off as a bad batch but tried it again today and it’s just how it’s made here. Chicken is very strange and all dough with very tough chicken inside. Sauce is not honey at all and very salty. I have noticed there are a few other comments on here about the honey chicken specifically.
Really hope they see these reviews and make some changes!! Could be so delicious

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My favorite, Hokkien Mee, is made better here at Royal Oak than other at other Noodle Canteen's I have tried. Plenty of Chili. Nice and saucy.
Special Fried Rice was nice too. The egg was a little too broken up for my preference, maybe add it back later in the cook. I would also have liked some MSG, but I understand why they don't use it.
Staff are always friendly and polite.

Whether they were too busy or just having an "off" night, I really struggled with the standard of the food we were given.
We ordered the honey chicken with rice and lemon chicken with "flat/rice" noodles. The honey chicken was great, the rice was not. It was overcooked & quite soggy and tasteless. The lemon chicken was ok, but the "flat/rice" noodles were nothing like I expected. It was SO disappointing because they ended up looking like overcooked mung bean sprouts!? And some of the cabbage/green vege-looking things were black! That's how overcooked(burnt) it was. It was dense/soggy & tasted pretty bad. The flavors that we expected were not there so I was bitterly disappointed.
I don't know how they cooked our food but the New Lynn branch of Noodle Canteen DOES NOT present food like that! Their food is fresh, veges are crisp & the flavors are amazing.
I bought this food on the way home from Mt Wellington so it's not like I could just trot back down the road to remedy the order. It would've taken 40-50mins just to get back there. So no, I won't be back here. Thanks anyway & I just hope they really work hard to improve their food.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ordered the Nasi Goreng and Sambal Fried Rice. For both dishes, there was slightly bit too much rice compared to meat. Both dishes here were $13.50 each.
Have tried the Honey soy chicken and wasn't impressed. Tasted artificial, bland and had hardly any chicken in the batter. Would suggest avoiding this dish here if you already have another preferred Noodle Canteen store.
