★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Last minute decision to do a freedom kayak at the lagoon. Great hosts, good explanation of the route and we were lucky enough to see kotuku feeding in the lagoon! Recommended!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was a great activity to do that is off the beaten track and combines the ocean and mountain elements. Okarito Lagoon is quite isolated, and has a different climate from Franz Josef, so for us it was a good rainy day activity, especially because you have the flexibility to paddle the time & speed that is best suited to you. Baz & Gemma have an awesome set up, they are really helpful and informative, and the all the gear - kayaks, paddles, spray-skirts & lifejackets - were all good quality and in very good condition. Hopefully will come back on a clearer day to enjoy the beautiful Southern Alps views!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The West Coast has some of the most spectacular scenery in NZ and Okarito is one of its gems. The largest unspoiled wetland left in NZ, it is a place of amazing natural beauty with the Southern Alps as a backdrop. Barry & Gemma have an obvious passion for the lagoon and will quickly and safely have you on the water to explore the tidal creeks and inlets and a chance to see some of the amazing local birdlife. Peaceful & quiet it is an experience that will stay with you for a long time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a great time. Excellent service, which can be hard to find! We’d never paddled before but it seemed very safe even with our 9yo, although quite slow going into the wind. Baz gave us all the right advice etc so we had a good understanding of what to expect. As someone else has said in another review, try to aim to be paddling at high tide but nevertheless I think it would still be fun in less water. Give it a go.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had the most wonderful afternoon kayaking on the lagoon. We don't usually choose guided tours but we are so glad we did. As well as stunning views and beautiful wildlife, Gemma was such a great host and guide, and knowledge about so many things! The business is run in a beautiful way, we left feeling so welcomed. Definitely recommend.
