★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Easy, short walk on well formed path. One hour round trip gives ample time to enjoy the surroundings. Fabulous views. Access easy except during tide peaks.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Currently under repair. The access road is narrow with limited passing areas and many blind corners. Parking is limited as well. However, the history, geology, and natural beauty of the place make this one of my Go To places on the Banks Peninsula.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great 360 degree views of akaroa harbour, 40 minute return easy walk.
For the first part, go along the rocks rather than over top as it has washed away. It's ok up to an hour either side of high tide

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ancient volcanic site that has some amazing migmatite, or "mixed rock" in Greek, of unusual yellow colors.
Also gleaming is a brilliant red color due to temperature oxide from the iron within the rock.
This site was a Māori pā (fortified village). Built in strategic locations, pā were cleverly constructed with a series of stockades and trenches protecting the inhabitants from intruders.
The Onawe Peninsula was defended but defeated in an inter-tribal battle, with up to 1200 people massacred.
The Onawe Peninsula can be accessed at low tide only and walking time is approximately 1 hour return.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What an amazing track. Pick a day with light winds and enjoy the incredible scenery. This is also an area of huge significance to Ngai Tahu - local Māori. A very interesting history surrounds this site for those interested in local history. Remember to go at low tide to avoid getting wet but rest assured it is worth the visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Saw gollum on the walk, the cheeky devil. Great scene's at the top, if your adventurous trying rolling down the hill a pop, I nearly had no more bills and ended it, heaps of fun. Also if you have grass allergies don't do it #rash4days

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spectacular sights. Well worth the climb to the end. The 360 views around the harbour are priceless. Mountains, sky and sea. The walk itself is pleasant, saw lots of birdlife. Make sure you check what the tide is doing as there is a short bit at the start of the walk where you need to walk along the shore to get to the hill and at high tide it will be under water (although shallow I think).
