This is a challenging walk to do with great scenery and views, lovely bush and native birds, some of them endangered

We've been at the hut for an overnight hike two weeks ago. We loved the walk and going down to the hut. The hut itself is quite small for 8 sleeps as the inside table is max 4 people. There are some basic cutlery and pots and pans you can use so I can recommend not to take any if you are like us, with toddlers as the bag is already quite heavy(!). There is no lighting at the hut and the candles provided were almost burned, so take your own lights or candles if you are either late in the season or want to play cards at night. The longdrop toilet had a roll of toilet paper. Assuming these things get stocked up by the DOC eventually? Be prepared to grab some leaves from the bush if not.. :) We had a good sleep, mattress relatively hard (to be expected though) and we were lucky to be the only once in the hut so we could stack them double. Definitely recommend the short walk to the beach and walk to the top for great views! We walked the peach cove track, stayed overnight and returned over the the whara track. I recommend going over the the whara track towards ocean beach car park for the greatest views (if you walk the the whara track from ocean beach road you have the views in your back - if you know what i mean). We started walking the following day at like 9am and arrived at the car park at 1pm ish, it was lightly rainy and slippery and with a heavy bag and toddlers with us it took us longer than if you're without kids. Highly recommended hike! Enjoy!!

Tough climb down and tougher back up. It was pretty damp as it's very shaded. But sun came out for a little bit. Locals warned us about the resident great white shark, but still had a swim.

A little DOC hut in a secluded forest setting near the water. The hike in and out requires above average fitness, with many steps to climb/descend, but we managed with a toddler in backpack and 4yr old son walking. We didn't stay in the hut, but had lunch on the deck. The hut is locked and a code is obtained from DOC when you book - there is a toilet closeby which was not locked. It is a 5 min walk to the water for a swim??? or if you travel in by boat. The only downside is that it seemed damp (it was winter) as the hut got very little sun due to its location and the trees. We enjoyed the hike, but most likely won't do it again.

Spent one awesome night here, the walk in and out is not technically difficult with a well formed track but man all those stairs! The hut is great with a good stainless steel bench inside and and fold down table and a deck outside with a sweet table. Lots of native bird song all day and night.

Cute hut, close to two beaches (both of which are quite rocky, but very secluded and lovely). Walk in and out is well paved, but has lots and lots of stairs so ends up being quite tough.
