A great place for an excursion and excellent scenic beauty. Wildlife, including Hector's dolphins, yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and sea lions, can be found at Curio and Porpoise bays. The area also contains the fossilised remains of an ancient forest and has an interesting history.

A must see. Only three breeding penguins. Are we to blame. I heard that some people can't resist getting close to the nests

Cold day but at least it wasn't raining. Shame wrong time of year so no penguins to be seen, but still, a pleasant couple of walks & read about how the Petrified Forest was formed

It's a good look around while the tides is low you can see so many different things logs trees and stumps that are petrified now it's a good look of the land scape and there is information talking about penguins and what it looked like before when it was a forest and good to watch high tide slowly come in good for wandering the area and think about what it might have looked like photos below ⬇️

Not at all what I was expecting. So pleased we went, it was really impressive. 170 million year old trees covered by rock. And if you're lucky, and go at dusk, you'll get to see a penguin.

You can view the Petrified Forest at Curio Bay from multiple lookout points. Follow the signs. We also spotted a penguin below, so try your luck after 5pm. Lots if interesting information to read about the petrified forest and the penguins. Plenty of parking nearby the cafe and toilets

Some petrified trees are visible even at high tide, so don't let that deter you! Our timing was about as bad as possible (arrived 15 minutes before high tide) but still saw several petrified logs. If the tide and wildlife conditions allow, I recommend going onto the beach rather than just staying on the viewing platform. Some of the trees aren't obvious until you're basically right on top of them.
