β β β β β I've walked almost the whole country on the Te Araroa Trail, so I can tell you with certainty that this is one of the best backpackers in New Zealand. It's a cozy little place with some of the nicest Kiwis around running it. I cannot recommend it enough.

β β β β β Absolutely loved the quaint Rata Lodge. Almost felt more like a B&B. Owners were extremely welcoming. Kitchen was small but very clean.

β β β β β Awesome couple. Very Nice place where we overnight there. Was pleased to be the first Papua New Guineans to stay there. Gerard and Vicky are very kind people.

β β β β β The owners were very responsive and friendly. The kitchen and den were immaculately clean and well stocked. The room was very nice, and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!

β β β β β Vikky and Stewart (I guess) were very friendly and welcoming.
A very small hostel in the middle of nowhere, great for relaxing! Since there is not a lot of rooms, you get plenty of time to get to know the other guests. Great movie selection, books and puzzles are also provided.
Good job on these electric heaters and heating blankets!
Thank you also for doing our laundry for little money (washing, dryer AND FOLDING!)
Will definitely come again if the opportunity comes!

β β β β β Great last minute stay. I drove up as the sun was going down and the owner was very friendly and was all set after a few minutes. Super cozy living room, clean well-stocked kitchen, and comfy heated beds, and a nice outdoor area.

β β β β β Clean, quiet and remote. We had a really nice stay in a place that felt homely. When we came back on our second day, our towels had been replaced with new clean ones.
The owners were being very welcomning without being clingy. Make this place your first priority when needing a place to sleep near Arthur's Pass.
