W	William León on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed for a couple of weeks and all I can say is that Mel is one of the first friends I made after arriving to Nz. She was always there in case anyone needed anything willing to help, that’s one of the reason why i will always recommend this hostel.
m	mendes army on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ !!!STAY AWAY FROM THE RIVER VIEW LODGE!!! If I could, Mel wouldn't even get ONE star from me. I left the River View Lodge SEVEN months ago and I am still waiting for my 100$ deposit that Mel owes me and my friend. We both followed ALL the rules and gave a one week notice before we left so there's no reason to not give us our money back. We called Mel a hundred times every day, she didn't pick up... We texted her, either she lied to us about her being on vacation or she didn't reply to us and eventually BLOCKED us... DO NOT GO THERE, YOU WON'T SEE YOUR MONEY AGAIN
N	Nele Bertling on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One Star because it’s cheap and the Wifi quite good but that’s about it. Ok for a couple of days but highly don’t recommend staying here for longer or in winter. There’s way too few toilets and showers for the amount of people staying there. Nobody cares about the house rules and most of the time everything is messy/dirty. And if you get your bond back at all you have to remind them a million times for weeks. Also there’s mold in a few areas, mice and a lot of other bugs.
M	Marine B on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When supposed to stay only 4 weeks, I spent 3 months and the lockdown in Riverview Lodge. This place is amazing, it makes you feel like home and part of the Opo Family. Perfect in summer to enjoy a huge and beautiful outdoor space. Thanks again Mel, I loved my adventure there and I’ll come say goodbye for sure !

Mel and Steve always take care about us ! Thanks you and see you soon ! Update : I came back six months later to stay during lockdown for a month and I stayed 3 more months. Still the same, still fun, always good people and amazing vibe. Always felt like my second house in new Zealand. Mel is wonderful and generous and helped me to stay even if I didn't have any job for weeks because I was not organised. During seven months in total, I've never met someone who was not happy there. I will never forget this place, forever in my memories ! You should go. Best place in NZ. Love you Mel
M	Marcel Zabojnik on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed around 7 weeks. It was pretty ok, clean and not as expensive for the car stay. However we didn’t like how Melany was acting sometimes, it was like summer camp where she was the boss. Three times she threatened that she would turn off WiFi, and this was really disappointing - she was acting like we are children. We have a lot of friends who didn’t get their bond back, which is sad. On the other hand, I would say it’s the safest hostel to stay in Opotiki and was always clean. Melany tried to help us with work, which was cool from her, and waited for us to be able to pay her. But be prepared - lot of parties here. It’s not 5 star review, I would maybe stay again for a short period. But if you’re looking where to start, meet some cool people, this is the place.
B	BlaAck_Co4 0 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice hostel! it’s like a big family and Mel is like a mother to everyone. If you are in Opotiki go to River view Lodge. There is a lot of space and at the front there is a small football field with two small goals and a big garden in the back. Best place to stay (especially while in lockdown ^^ ). Thanks to Mel again for everything, we love you :* Ben and Flo :)
A	Adrian Horvath on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Got kicked out with no notice for no reason. Rubbish all over the place. Owner didn't have the decency to tell me to switch rooms or move stuff. Went Through some person living there to let me know. Owner unfriendly, some people that live there also not very friendly. Don't recommend, also only two working showers with about 30 to 35 people living there. Save yourself the hassle. Find a another place, way better places in town
