About Sal's Authentic NY Pizza - Lambton Quay

Sal’s Story

1941: Salvatore Leo is born in a little town call Corato in the Puglia region of Southern Italy.

1951: Only 10 years old, Sal immigrates to New York City.

1959: Under the watchful eye of his family, Sal begins mastering the art of making authentic New York pizza by hand by strictly adhering to his family’s well-guarded pizza making techniques and secret recipes.

1975: ‘Sal’s Pizza of Little Neck’ opens and Sal’s legend starts to spread, becoming renowned for some of the finest and freshest pizza throughout the city.

2008: After a number of ‘recovery’ pizzas following a celebratory NYC New Years, the idea of bringing Authentic NY pizza to NZ was born.

Late 2008: Following successful blind taste tests using NZ water on some of Sal’s longest customers in NYC, we prove that NZ WATER WORKS to make Authentic New York Pizza.

2009: ‘Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza’ opens our first store in Auckland, and Brian Leo -’Son o’ Sal and pizza making prodigy’ decides to join us.

Many years later, Brian continues to train and mentor our pizza makers ensuring his family legacy lives on in every slice we serve.

WE HOPE YOU LOVE NEW ZEALAND’S ONLY 100% AUTHENTIC NEW YORK PIZZA.

Just thought I'd copy/paste my Uber review for anyone considering delivery: "10 and a half wings is an odd number of wings. There were 10 proper ones plus a weird toe-shaped munted stump with one short bone in it. Blunt at both ends. I'm no ornithologist but I'm not sure what part of the bird it was. And birds don't have toes as such. I guess I was expecting a multiple of 6. Am I too old fashioned? Maybe Sal's has gone metric. No. That still doesn't explain the toe. Unless it was a bonus. Y'know. Like a baker's dozen. Maybe it goes by weight. But dude! That toe freaked me out. At least the wings and the toe were hot - unlike the cold flacid pizza-like thing that doesn't taste of much beyond tinned tomato with a hint of... I don't know... is it dishwashing liquid? Definitely something from the cleaning supplies family. I'm not trying to be funny or intentionally insulting. That is the genuine flavour profile of the floppy pizza-like thing that was delivered. I've enjoyed Sal's wings before but never had the pizza. Maybe this is the way it is supposed to taste but... but... how can pepperoni have no flavour? Weird! Wait! (I'm still critiquing the first slice) Floor polish! That's the weird taste. Specifically Marveer for wooden floors and furniture. That's it. Yes! That's it! What an incredibly niche flavour offering. Anyway, if I were to sum up the experience in one word, that word would be regret. As much as Uber screws their drivers, he's the only one who's had a win in this scenario. UPDATE 1: Sal's 'reached out' here on Google and asked me to message them. Giddy with anticipation and hope in my heart, I did! Now, on ghosting day 5, the anticipation has faded and hope has died. UPDATE 2: I have messaged Sal's again to follow up my initial contact. Still no reply. That was 2 weeks ago. I'm starting to think that there never will be a reply and the apology they give and suggestion to contact them is just for appearances sake. Update 3: Sal's replied to email number 3 with a generous voucher to compensate for my bad experience. Case closed... or so I thought. Read the next chapter in my review of the Cuba Street store.

It’s worth a try. I had one piece of pizza with mozzarella sticks.

First time having Sal's and was disappointed by the experience. The chicken was pink in the middle and the sauce wasn't that good. The pepperoni had no bite to it and was very tasteless. The knots has raw dough in the middle.

Spent 25 minutes at this shop and got nothing. Service was so slow I had to cancel the order. When after 25 minutes I asked to cancel the order the staff offered me that they would double my order free of charge. But as after 25 minutes they had not even started cooking the food, I requested my money back and left. And they did give me my money back, quite promptly, but without realising it they committed bank fraud in the process. I wouldn't have faith in this business being a going concern.

Best pizza's ever from Sal's Pizza. I couldn't believe the flavour could be so good. My favorite is the New York Pepperoni Pizza and hubby LOVES the garlic knots. Give it a go!! You will be surprised.

The quality is not what I expect from food in general. The buffalo wings where fatty and without dedicated taste. The pizza was fat as well and The taste is an individual thing. Single use plates and cutlery is another point less.

I had a lovely experience here the other night (25/03). The lovely young lady who served me was very polite, I wasn’t too sure what to get as I’ve never been here before. And they looked very very busy but she took the time to recommended me her favourite slice (Nonna) and suggested adding a garlic ball. My gosh it was amazing, the customer service this young lady has is astonishing, the way she managed to take the time and help me while dispersing pizzas left right and centre was OUTSTANING; I’m sure the other customers were as blown away as I was. I waited outside and she brought it out to me in no time with a lovely smile on her face and wished me a Good Night. Please pass this message on to her, and whatever you’re paying her I suggest doubling it. One extremely happy customer here. I will definitely be returning.
