★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really cosy place with rooms a very big view. Annett is taki g perfect care of her hosts. Delicious dinner with fresh vegtables an fresh fish was served. Kaka parrots visiting you.

It has been lovingly created by our host who takes great care to ensure providing somewhere to stay does not compromise the natural habitat of native plants and birds. As a result as a guest you feel as far as possible that you are part of the island and not an intruder in it. The starlight loft gives an amazing sky scape over Golden Bay. Perfect for watching the Aurora Australis. Delicious home grown and cooked food is an added bonus. Everyone should stay at least once at the Observation Rock Lodge.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a luxury lodge!! This August I had a marvellous holiday in Stewart Island and chose Observation Rock Lodge for my stay: a perfect choice! I could nurture any of my passions, from birdwatching to walking, from looking for kiwis to talking with locals, exploring beaches and forests, and reading a book on the history of this island. Annette, the host, took extremely care of all my needs facilitating my ‘island experience’. Fantastic room, plenty of unique views on landscapes, relaxing living room, breakfast and dinner at the top, and a garden all around with a wide variety of nice and local plants. Rich of details which always make the difference, I decided to stay 2 more nights and to have a whole week here. It was the perfect time to enjoy this experience although it was winter time (fantastic weather too, always lucky…no wind, always sun and some clouds with just minimal rains). Strongly reccomended

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Annette is a warm & wonderfully accommodating host, generous breakfasts, good coffee & home grown grapes from the glasshouse.
Our room, had a super comfortable bed with lovely linen and the European feel that a duck down duvet gives.
Our shower was excellent and large.
We had a beautiful view across Pattersons Bay out to Ulva Island from one window and a bush view with Kereru, Tui, Bellbirds & Kaka.
A little oasis.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My husband and I spent two nights at Observation Rock Lodge and Annett was the perfect host, sharing her experience of the island with us, booking the best excursions available and spoiling us with delicious breakfast ! The lodge has the best location : very private, immersed in Nature with an amazing view from the cosy bedrooms. I whole heartedly recommend you to book a room there and experience Annett's sense of welcoming and generosity.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Anette is a great host, always making sure we were well settled, she even lent me her pair of hiking shoes when mine were too wet. The lodge is really in synergy with nature, we had many visits of native birds. The room was clean and cosy, and the view is the best you can get!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We loved our stay at observation rock lodge. We were looking to experience total comfort, privacy and a little luxury during our 4-night stay on Stuart Island. Observation Rock Lodge is all that and so much more...
Our suite was a decent size, spotless clean with a modern well equipped ensuite, a private balcony, a private twin spa bath on the balcony and an iconic panoramic Stewart Island view.
Annett is the perfect host, looking after our every need and was patient and super friendly... she is also a talented Chef. Breakfast is included and what a breakfast! One of the best I have experienced at any BnB... but if you are staying here do yourself a favor and stay in for dinner at least once! For me it was one of the highlights of the entire trip.
Observation Rock costs more than most other places on the island.... but it is worth every cent.
