★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best onsen / Ryokan experience in Australia / New Zealand. This feels as close to a Ryokan in Japan anywhere in the region. I was blown away by how silky our skin felt after soaking in the hot springs. For each over night stay you can book 1 afternoon (4-7pm), 1 evening (7.30-10.30pm) and 1 morning (7-10am), half hour bookings each time. Our deluxe studio was very spacious and recently renovated (it was very very clean), wifi was good enough for browsing or watching streaming services.
To the customer who gave a bad review recently, at any Ryokan, keep noise to an acceptable level (other guests do not like loud or boisterous behaviour) and don't invite friends around - this is a typical condition of any Ryokan.
Gates are locked around 9pm, and your room key has access to open and close the gate. This is done to keep guests safe and stop non-guests from accessing the facilities.
We are definitely coming back on our next trip to NZ.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The motel is Cozy and clean inside, with a new reno. Nice towels, good tv, good bedding. Japanese simplicity in a good way. The hot pool was nice, but from 3 tubes only one is actually opened. From outside it looks very ugly, so don’t be surprised.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a great find this hotel was! The hot pools were really just like Japanese onsen. So relaxing and your skin will feel lovely and smooth after bathing. The room we stayed in was lovely and clean with modern style, and had everything we needed. I really liked the extra two chairs and small table in the room. The room was also nice and warm which is important on chilly winter nights after bathing. My only wish is that we could stay in each onsen longer than 30 minutes because I didn't want to leave them, but you can enter the onsen 3 times a day which is good. I would definitely like to stay here again!

The rooms looked newly renovated. Clean and cozy. Friendly service and the hot spring was awesome!!
Definitely one of my best accommodation experience in NZ.
The front gate was locked at night for security reasons, which I think was a pretty smart idea and made us feel safer and more relaxed. Entry was still accessible for us when we came back late as the gate key was provided at check-in.
Would recommend to everyone looking for accommodations in Rotorua.
