β β β β β Absolutely unique place. Went in the evening and the fading light really added to the mood. The view over the valley from the "windows" was also great. Do bring a good torch, tho. It gets dark in the mines.

β β β β β Great walks through the tunnels and cliffs, stunning views of the entire area, colours are amazing through the minerals running down the rocks. Crystal clear waters, these were extremely arduous and only hard men could have mined and cut there way through leaving us a magnificent track to see the beauty of the gorge that cannot be appreciated just driving past.

β β β β β Beautiful walk, with tunnels and mining ruins taken over by the jungle. I recommend going on a week day or parking is an issue. Their are toilets at the car park and it's close to train rides. Pearoa and Wahi which are both lovely towns with good food and fantastic shops.

β β β β β Crown mines are a part of the hike at Karangahake gorge. If you are in the area, This is a must do activity. Hike is nice and easy for the most part.
Carry a torch/flashlight or a fully charged phone with led light as you would need it for sure. Good hiking shoes will help as some places could be slippery due to rain fall.

β β β β β Amazing place!! Long walking, sometimes little bit cold, but only for the mine!! And is free! After is possible walking more 2 hs for climb the mountain but is very hard track. No for family and childs!! Warning. Is very slippery, muddy and dangerous. But is beautiful, amazing walking. Adventure track!!

β β β β β This is one of the best spot I have seen around the North Island. The Crown Mines has many ventures for different people, you can choose to walk to nearby spots where you can get into the dark cave (bring your torch or use your phone) and there is a window spot where you can look out from the top, or if you're more adventures, try walking into different path which I did not do because it does get scary if you're alone. If you're into hiking or biking, this is an excellent spot to be, about 7km long you can see the sights and sound of the wonderful nature NZ has to offer. This is a tourist spot which means it does get crowded, so get there early to make sure you have a parking spot.
