★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Today i thought we would go to The George for lunch. Having rung and booked in advance was surprised to see the Restaurant was quiet after being told we were lucky to get in! We were seated after being asked twice if we had a booking. we were offered water, once seated, but it took them at least 10 mins to finally give us a menu after we had to ask! The wait staff had the warmth of being on Death row. we started on the breads for a starter but it arrived with half the condiments missing. we had ordered the Chicken dish but not long after the waitress told us they had run out of salad. and asked if we could have vegetables instead, which was fine. But when it arrived we got two small chicken fillets with broccoli and a few green beans, along with two round brown balls which looked like over cooked cheezels. but to top it off, when my Mum asked for a glass of wine it arrived with a lovely shade of lipstick on the side of the glass, maybe the bar staff thought they had over filled the glass, in order to correct the volume took a swig or two!
Needless to say the experience was dissapointing. The allure of The George Restaurant has gone.

The first time I stayed at The George I found the service at reception and room service average at best - not very attentive, not particularly friendly, or customer focused. This surprised me after being recommended the hotel by a friend who really enjoys staying there. I decided to provide feedback to the hotel, to which I received a prompt, and apologetic sincere response from management. It was clear to me they were surprised by the feedback, and genuinely appreciative at the opportunity to improve. I decided to return during my next trip to Christchurch, and I am pleased I did. The service was excellent, and has been each time I have been back since.
The rooms are very tidy, clean and comfortable. I recommend booking a room with a balcony looking over the garden - very relaxing.
The only slight improvement I would like to see still is a slightly more extensive in-room dining menu and a drinks menu in the room.
Thanks for being receptive to constructive feedback and proving that my initial not-so-great experience was not reflective of the hotel's usual high standards.

The George is just exceptional. I am lucky to have stayed there a few times and got to know a couple of the team members who warmly welcome me back each time.
An easy positive review to be honest.

But the best was really the service. So many little things that added up to us having such an awesome experience.
Mark, the Concierge, was especially fantastic - thanks from Juanita and James for being super attentive and friendly!
