★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A true hidden gem in this quaint seaside town. Was recommended to us by family members who have stayed before and had a wonderful experience. The host was friendly and welcoming, offering the best place to grab some local fish and chips. The room was clean and cozy with amazing natural lighting. A very peaceful and relaxing place to unwind after a long day of traveling. Would highly recommend to friends and family in the future!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place to stay. Helpful staff that passed on their knowledge of the area. The room was huge and stunning with timber wooden floors. At night there wasn’t much love for timber floors and you could hear other guests walk around.
We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Party of 9.... 6 day fishing/camping trip at cape maria van diemen... this made a for an excellent home base at each end of the trip. Had the whole place to ourselves. Restaurants down the road were excellent too. Magic time. Highly recommended

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I am in love with the decor and furnishings inside. It had a clean modern look while still retaining original characteristics. I stayed in the Pohutukawa suite, which was roomy and comfortable. There’s views of the water and easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. A very cute and quiet town. One day I decided to just stay in and relax in the room because I enjoyed it so much.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is simply a superb place to stay in historic Mangonui. It combines all the virtues of an historic building, with beautiful wooden floors, verandahs and balconies, with the the comforts you would expect of a modern hotel, upgraded really stylishly. In short, it is a great place to stay and watch the world go by. Our bed in the Pohutukawa Suite was really comfortable and the room was spacious, with a lovely outlook across the garden and the sea. Perfect! We loved what our hosts, Jenny and Justin, were doing with the gardens and we enjoyed our interaction with them. They are easy, pleasant, informative people to deal with and the hospitality they provide feels just right. No negatives at all; I would happily have stayed longer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great location - restaurant next door, beautiful room - although watch your head! Balcony overlooking the harbour, and terrific service . I left stuff behind, it was swiftly returned at no charge. We'll be back to this magic spot, and will very happily stay there again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Would definitely recommend the old oak as fabulous accommodation. The 2-brm room we had upstairs was quaint and full of character. The room was immaculate and well appointed. The hosts were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. They have been there 4 months and are very passionate about the history and character of the hotel which is amazing.
