About The Outdoors Hut
Magnum Imports was created in 1995, as a specialist mail order retailer of reloading equipment.
The Upper Hutt Gunshop had operated in Montgomery Crescent since 1987. Initially as a retail and gunsmithing/manufacturing business. It quickly gained a excellent reputation for the expertise and knowledge, and quality of the workmanship.
I had worked with the previous owner for some time, importing and retailing products together. During that time we had many discussions regarding purchase of the shop either as a partner or full owner.
Finally in 2013 we agreed on conditions and Magnum Imports NZ ltd purchased the business as a going concern from 1 April 2014.
Aim
Magnum Imports has always believed we offer specialist advice and service in the areas of shooting and Reloading.
The acquisition of a Bricks and Mortar store enabled Magnum Imports to access a much wider range of products and extend our offering not only of more shooting/hunting related items, but to cater more to the wider outdoors recreations (inc tramping and camping).
We see Upper Hutt as the gateway to the Tararuas / Rimutukas and a great city for getting outdoors. We want to become the top of mind supplier for those wanting to enjoy our local environment, and as well as the local shooting fraternity.
The Gunshop is very much a destination shop, and services the wider region

β β β β β Purchased my first pistol from here about 3 years ago. A second hand Ruger MK 2 Target- after selecting the pistol which had an extremely dirty chamber, I was told by the shop owner that prior to pick up, he would clean it and supply 3 magazines. On the day of the pickup, it was still uncleaned ,filthy and he insisted that there were only 2 magazines. After taking it home and cleaning it, I found the chamber to be damaged. Being a naive and new pistol shooter at the time, I didn't complain, thinking that the shooting community must all be like that. Now, having some experience, I see with hindsight that the owner ripped me off and that the shooting community is not like that at all. Since then, I've spent many thousands of dollars
at other gun shops- all with great experiences. Never been back to the Upper Hutt Gunshop again. The only genuine experience I had there was his friendly dog.Great to read that others have had better experiences but I can only go by how I was treated.

β β β β β Not just a Gunshop! Be sure to head over to the Gunshop for all your Tongariro Crossing needs as well. Having realised my gear wasn't going to 'cut it', I was after a waterproof jacket for completing the Tongariro Crossing. Dropped Wayne a line and he came up trumps with a excellent option at an end of season price. I was so stoked I also opted to grab a pack (having had second thoughts about my smaller option at home). Came away with a great deal and primo gear and a few pointers from Wayne on how best to layer up to complete the Tongariro Crossing. Couldn't have asked for better from your locals.
