About The Palms Medical Centre
The Palms Medical Centre Limited has been providing quality medical care to the residents of and visitors to Palmerston North and the surrounding regions of the lower North Island for nearly 25 years. The practice started out as ‘The Doctors’ and was located next to Pak-n-Save in Ferguson Street. In 2006 the practice relocated to a purpose-built premise at the site of the old Phoenix Garden Centre, 445 Ferguson Street, Palmerston North, and become known as The Palms Medical Centre. The visionary concept of providing a centrally located, one-stop health shop where a welcoming Community GP Centre and Urgent Care Centre is located next door to a pharmacy, x-ray, ultrasound, dental, physiotherapy, specialists, complete with a relaxing cafΓ© and over 150 carparks was pioneering at the time.

β β β β β In an attempt to register with this medical centre my wife & I were interrogated by an extremely rude woman who treated us with utter contempt and was also keen on racist comments. Not the welcome one should expect at a so called medical centre!!

β β β β β The Palms were fantastic yesterday when dealing with our 1 yr olds high temp. We're able to see us promptly and we're very thorough while being extremely cautious at the same time. The nurses and dr were fantastic, friendly and didn't turn us away like other acute clinics in PN.

β β β β β Man does this place live up to it's terrible reputation.
We have never used The Palms before so this is an unbiased first hand experience of X2 parents trying to get after hours on a public holiday for a 5month old.
Phoned and waited on hold for near on 20mins to speak to reception, decided to drive down while on hold and was able to walk straight in and up to the desk to talk to both receptionists even while still on hold. Was told they are too busy as only 2 staff on.
This was followed by extreme patronizing by the front desk, couldn't give us even an estimated wait time considering we had a baby with us, asked us pointless questions only to then look up the answers herself like we were lieing to her.
Honestly you are better to go elsewhere if you can, you'll be treated like a number here by rude, patronizing receptionists. The feedback regarding front of house is overwhelming, it's really surprising management haven't taken notice.

β β β β β Literally the worst medical Center you can go to. My friend and I needed emergency medicals done for our visas and I had given them a call early Feb to check if they had any appointments available. I was told that they are fully booked until April and that I shouldnβt contact them again about it until then or walk in to enquire about it. Exactly 2 weeks later, I found out that someone I know walked in and was handed an appointment to do the immigration medical the next day. I was shocked and decided to go in and check. To my surprise the immigration medical center had so many free slots available for Feb. I was absolutely furious that I was given the wrong information and sent on a wild goose chase where I had to call other hospitals across the country to secure an appointment.
Also, the immigration medical costs $455 (without an x-Ray) whereas hospitals in Auckland and other regions charge only between $200 - $350 for an immigration medical. I ended up making the trip to Auckland to get it done because that ended up being cheaper altogether than this.
My friend did a blood test at medlab, the palms. They had the medical results available the next day but got her gender wrong on the result sheet. So she had to wait a WHOLE week just to get the gender changed and receive a new document! A whole week which is absurd! When it was finally changed, palms was meant to email the results to a hospital in Auckland but instead they called us to come collect the results and do it ourselves. First they make the mistake on the results sheet and then they tell us we have to submit it ourselves. The service is absolutely horrendous and overpriced. I have had one or two good experiences but the rest have been absolutely terrible. Some of their staff are really rude. Save your money and time and donβt go there.

β β β β β Took my husband to the Palms Medical Centre this morning because we could not get into our own doctors. The receptionist was very nice and friendly and Doctor Holly was really good and very understanding.
Great Service.

β β β β β The Palms have seen my family and myself over the past few years, all as urgent/emergencies, and every time they've been great. From reception, through to discharge. Dr Debra (treated my husband and my kids) and Tania (x-ray'd my kids) in particular have been awesome. Thank you!

β β β β β Long time customer and receiver of bad service from The Palms receptionists HOWEVER, today Brock took my call, it was answered after about 5 minutes (a clear improvement from hours of waiting previously), he answered my queries, did some checks, called me back, had amazing advice and was super friendly, knowledgable and PLEASANT. Well done, Brock. Keep up the good work, you are a credit to The Palms. Thank you ;-) - Edit: I also told Brock how helpful and pleasant he was. See it, call it!
