★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a lovey place. Right on the beautiful beach. The rooms impeccably clean and well maintained - a retro establishment. The managers are so helpful. It’s absolutely perfect for a quiet getaway. We loved it

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great staff who were very helpful and helped choose an appropriate room for my elderly parents. The beach is in front of unit and absolutely wonderful. The rooms were clean and they helped get an extra plug for our radio.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This area is actually my ancestral home. The motel overlooks the Hokianga Harbour. Its not so much the bustling place it has been but the locals are what make the place visit the Market on Saturday mornings at the wharf just down the road in Opononi.here is where you will find a bargain or even a cooked meal visit the bar next to the dairy again not what it once was but this place comes to life during festive seasons and should their be a concert by live well known bands and artists Homegrown. Meet the tangata whenua and don't be shocked if a blue eyed brother speaks te red Maori cause he's of the land ? too.visit to chill out, replenish your weary mind from wherever you have come from. Haere mai nau mai ki Hokianga nui o Kupe whakapau karakia e.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you want beach views, peace and quiet and to listen to native birds and the sea then The Sands is ideal, but we're here late winter. I'm sure it's different in summer. A lovely bay right on your doorstep. Accommodation is adequate but very 70s and tired. For us location is everything and we had everything we needed. Will be fabulous for families on a summer holiday.
