★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were so glad we booked this guided walk. Our guide was Olivia and she was stellar! As a bonus, it was only the two of us with the guide!
Not only did we learn a ton along the way (and we peppered her with a thousand questions), she was so patient and kind. I have a bad knee but we took it slow and it worked out great. It was super windy at a few points and Olivia always made sure we were safe and warm. They had literally everything to outfit you including snacks, lunch and water. We saw quite a few people not prepared and having to turn back (in shorts or no hats/mitts). It was worth every dollar! Also they picked us up right from our Airbnb and dropped us off (thanks Camo!). We saw people waiting for shuttles when we finished but our van was ready and waiting for us.
Also they monitor the weather conditions (wind speeds, rain etc) so you don’t have to worry about it.
If your thinking about booking, don’t think and just book it! It’s seriously worth it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a great hike with our guide from Tongariro guided walks. One of the guys in our group lost his shoe (disintegrated while walking) and Terry helped out by lending his own shoe while hiking the last half wearing just his sock! What a guy! The walk was well paced and our guide explained the sights as we walked by them. When we got down we felt very happy that we had booked this as a guided tour and not just stepped into the walk in sneakers and t shirts as you see a lot of people struggling above unprepared. Thanks!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I were rather anxious about this hike. Firstly because we had no idea what equipment we would need to bring and secondly whether we would be fit enough to do this hike (especially after 5 full days of skiing!).
Terry was very helpful on the phone before we booked and explained that he would contact us 2 days prior to the hike to ensure the weather would be good enough for the hike and that he could provide pretty much all the clothing we needed as well as boots, ice axes and crampons.
We hiked on a beautiful day at the end of winter. It was tough but Terry did a great job of making sure everyone in the group was able to go at a comfortable pace.
The hike lasted just over 7 hours with amazing views of the volcanos and Taupo Lake. Also for Lord of the Rings fans, there are great views of Mount Doom and Mordor!
Terry was a professional throughout ensuring our safety was his top priority and was extremely knowledgeable about the area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My friend and I had a great guided hike up Mt Ruapehu to the crater lake with Terry. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the geology, flora and landmarks visible on our hike. He was well prepared for any unforeseen challenges that may have eventuated, so safety was obviously a priority.
Terry provided comfortable hiking boots and socks, poles, and wet weather gear in case we needed it. A tasty lunch and hot drink, too
We had a most enjoyable day with great company in such an impressive landscape.
Thank you Terry for helping us tick this off our bucket lists.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We completed the Tongariro Crossing in November guided by Olivia and driver Cam. The weather wasn't great when we set off but was due to clear so the hike went ahead. Olivia and Cam were great in ensuring everyone had suitable clothing and enough water before we set off (all included in the price). A tasty sandwich and plenty of snacks were also provided.
The weather was closely monitored during the walk to make sure it was safe to carry on. Luckily the weather blew over and we got clear blue skies and sunshine which made the views even more amazing. The pace was comfortable for our small group with plenty stops when needed.
Olivia was fantastic throughout. She had good knowledge of the trail, interesting stories and was especially good with my wife who is a less experienced hiker.
Due to the uncertain weather forecast the general shuttle buses were cancelled so without a guide we would have missed out on an amazing day. I'm really glad we chose Tongariro Guided Walks, it was well worth it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I really enjoyed the Alpine crossing hike with Terry. He's incredibly knowledgeable and shared interesting stories about hiking in the area, the geology etc. Also just great conversation about life in general which is awesome considering how long this hike is. Terry was very well equipped with gear like base layers, hiking boots etc enabling anyone to do the hike. He also paced the tour to the speed of the hikers (I was slow on the uphills and not for a moment did I feel like I was letting folks down). There was a wonderful snack package and Terry ensured that with his tips and tricks, we did the extremely long and sometimes challenging hike really easily. Given how hot the day was, he had his team bring us iced water on the trail as well ensuring we were well hydrated and refreshed. I can't recommend Tongariro Guided Hikes enough. Great communication, planning and friendly staff!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We completed the Tongariro Crossing on Monday. Our guide Terry was fantastic with his background experience as a paramedic, and with LSAR, and local knowledge you can have full confidence in his ability to guide you safely. This is very important if it is your first time walking the TC. His commentary and the lunch provided were both excellent. In these times supporting local operators like TGW is a great way to contribute to our economy so if you can please do it, you won't be disappointed. We really enjoyed our day, and hope you will too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I walked the Alpine Crossing with Tongariro Guided Walks and can 100% recommend. Our guide was very friendly and had a ton of interesting things to say and the views were absolutely spectacular. I could also borrow extra equipment (walking poles and some items of clothing) with no extra charge and lunch was delicious. Overall it was an absolutely wonderful day, stress-free despite track's challenges. Thank you for the great time!
