★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a fantastic place. I had a container room, double bed, kitchenette etc. The room was tidy, warm and more than adequate. The camp amenities were great. Good pressure and heat in the showers... Just watch that red light for the next coin feed. LOL. I enjoyed the fabulous food and hospitality of the on site cafe, Soul Kitchen (open Fri, Sat Sun daylight savings hours), but a trip to the camp kitchen to fill the Jug for my room showed it to be well appointed with everything you need for a holiday. Just bring food!
I used the retreat as a base to do several localish hikes, and being only 5 minutes off the main Rd, it will become a regular coffee stop on my trips to and from Taranaki. The cafe has lovely comfortable beach front seating and amazing baking! Mobile and Internet are patchy, but you're on holiday in a beautiful spot, so who needs it anyway!! 3 minutes up the road you can get service.
I was travelling alone, but imagine this is a pumping family holiday spot over summer.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a great place to have a wedding! The entire day was organised within the grounds and guests were able to stumble to bed when the function was over. The ceremony location overlooked the ocean at this beautiful location, the beach a very short walk away, and the function another short walk away under a marquee. There was a range of accommodation options from tent sites to fully functional cabins and everything in between. The issues we struck were the lack of water availability at each camp site, unless you bought your own you had to go to the shared kitchen and fill your own container. Worse than that was the toilet situation which from where we stayed was a decent walk through the camp ground, not fun in the middle of the night after a night of drinking. Our cabin was a converted container, basic with 2 bedrooms (2 singles and a double) and a space in the middle with a sofa, fridge, jug, cups and coffee/tea sachets. It was expected that we wash our cups and clean up befor leaving, and with no water or teatowels it was another walk to the kitchen with a hangover. Was by this time also needing the bathroom and this was next to the kitchen so intended on 'killing 2 birds'. However an inconsiderate guest had made an extreme mess in the bathroom and it was closed while being cleaned, so I literally had no option unless I could find a private bush. However, it was still a beautiful location, we all had a marvellous time and id still recommend this wonderful retreat for a break away from city living.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We love it here. Three years running (so far). We love staying in the converted shipping containers, for the campsite feel, with security of a lock up unit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great family get away spot! We stayed 3 days, 2 nights in a container and had a powered tent site right next to the container for the kids to camp out in. We all absolutely loved it! Went fishing, swimming and took our portable gas cookers for quick and easy meals. Also ate at the cafe they have there, beautiful food and good coffee! The kitchen and shower facilities are just what you need, clean and tidy, nothing fancy but that wasn't important for us. The staff are all friendly, We will absolutely be staying here again.
