Be transported by the holistic, wellbeing experience of our geothermal and mineral hot pools.

About Wairakei Terraces

Significant natural thermal springs, mud and silica waters found in geothermal areas, have long been used by Māori for bathing, healing and wellness.

Specific sites were often located in beautiful landscapes, at the junction of rivers and streams, on the shores of pristine lakes or below magnificent silica terraces.

At Wairakei Terraces we carry-on this tradition, embracing the natural environment and harnessing the geothermal abundance of our rohe (region).

At the turn of the 18th century, visitors worldwide travelled to Wairakei to “take the waters”, testifying to their “curative properties particularly for skin ailments” and the “therapeutic effects” on the body.

Visitors today continue this tradition, taking-in the striking blue and silky 'to the touch' waters.

At Wairakei Terraces, it's important to us to offer a holistic mind, body and soul experience. This links us back in time to the long history of healing found here in Wairakei.

Today our thermal waters warm your body to the core while nourishing and moisturising your skin, like they did hundreds of years ago.

Our combination of relaxing baths, massage and beauty treatments have been chosen as a path to unlocking, revitalising and energising your mind, body and soul.

We hope you feel the warmth and the aroha (love) that lives in this very special part of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Awesome place to relax. Beautiful hot pools. Super hot actually. Adults only is a must. No shower available in level 2, but they recommend take a shower after 4 hours later (I didn’t know that). Ho and enjoy this place!

Wairakei Terraces is an amazing place to visit in Taopo if you want to relax your body and your mind with the hot pools where surrounded by beautiful nature. I really loved the water temperature! But be mindful that Most of them are hot! (But nice!) Car park is easy to do, and there is no shower available in a changing room as they recommend to take a shower after 4 hours later to keep natural minerals on your body. Highly recommend to go there!

Wairakei Terraces and Thermal Health Spa is touted as one of New Zealand's premier geothermal locations! ? Of course it is the perfect way to unwind and relax. The geothermal waters boast a range of healing properties including detoxifying, and relieving aches and pains ☺? People have bathed in the waters of Wairakei for generations and its healing and therapeutic benefits are now receiving worldwide acclaim in the field of natural holistic therapies ?☺ The waters, rich in silica, sulphate, magnesium, potassium, and a whole host of other valuable minerals, can assist with a whole array of health ailments ? Positioned underneath the silica terraces and a beautiful waterfall, the pool's dazzling blue waters provide the perfect surroundings for the ultimate in rest and relaxation ? The vivid blue pools cascade beautifully over the terraces, carrying the silica which helped form these amazing natural platforms ? I love that you can actually see the mineral rich water spill over the silica terraces into the pool. There is no doubt where the water comes from ? The first pool closest to the terraces is a minimum of 40 degrees Celcius ? Bliss! The second pool is much cooler, and I mainly moved between the two. The third pool has a medium temperature ? To replicate the natural terrain, the pools were also built in terraces, and sit among lush trees and woodlands ??One problem I experienced is that the steps leading into the pool is also terraced and difficult to see. They are different heights, lengths, and widths, and the same colour as the water. I nearly fell in one spot, getting into the pool ?? There are also no water fountains, and you have to make the quite long trek back to the main building to fill your water bottle It was heaven to just let life's daily stresses run free from my mind as I relaxed and heard the native birds in their natural setting ???

Incredibly beautiful! We were lucky to go when it was drizzling so there wasn't anyone else there. So well looked after. Definitely a must see for everyone

We stayed around the corner and went to Wairakei Terraces twice. First day we enjoyed the pool then the second day we decided to do the hīkoi. The hīkoi is beautiful. You can take as song as you want. We took longer than we had planned.

Amazing place! A must do in Taupo. All the pools are different temperatures which is really great. Large pools so you never feel crowded. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing. The young Maori girl on reception was absolutely beautiful and so very helpful. I would recommend this place to everyone. Can't wait to go back and go into the beautiful looking pools and have a stone massage. Loved it...
