Bit disappointed vaccine passes were not checked (they had a “non-discrimination” poster on the window) but it didn’t bother me too much as the seating was outside and was well spaced out.

The Akaroa Fish & Chips Shop claims to be world renowned. How can you miss this Bulldog sculpture in blue gernsey with white stars, and red and white stripes shorts sitting on a low wall?
Hang on a minute; this bulldog is NOT an Aussie (Australian) or Kiwi (Ne Zealander). It is a Yankee (American), because the Star and Stripes are the design of the American flag. Be alert, not alarm! The Yanks are coming!
The shop is really busy, and customers queue up for their orders. The fish and chips has an option to serve with normal potato chips and kumera (sweet potato) chips. The fish pieces are not very big, and in short, it is expensive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Some of the best fish and chips around! Highly recommend you check out Akaroa Fish & Chips. It's a must-do for us on every day trip over to Akaroa. The food is amazing. Nice crispy batter, excellent fish and a good portion of chips. Lots of options too and good prices for the quality you are getting. Lovely to have some fish and chips by the water.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a pretty good fish and chip shop. The elephant fish was very good, the batter was crispy and flavourful whilst also not being too oily. The squid curls were fantastic I highly recommend everyone to grab half a dozen of these. The only problem I have with this place are that the chips aren’t very good, they were cooked well but they had almost no taste to them, very little seasoning and looked like they were store bought. If you’re gonna get a scoop of chips I suggest getting a pottle of gravy to go along with it.

Batter was crisp, fish fresh AF. Was craving homemade onion rings, sadly not to be this time.
Service super friendly, fast to fry.
Worth going for a wander up the shoreline to eat. Seagulls surprisingly not too aggressive?
Highly recommend.
