As a third-generation optometrist, Richard Shanks has enjoyed caring for Wellingtonians’ vision for over 26 years. Richard has extensive knowledge across all aspects of optometry with a particular interest in children’s visual development and vision affected by acquired brain Injury. As a behavioural optometrist, he understands the immense impact that visual difficulties can have on learning and the importance of maximising a child’s learning potential by remediating visual difficulties through vision therapy. Richard Shanks has considerable knowledge and experience to offer his patients.

โ โ โ โ โ Me sibling and me mum used to go here.. sometimes it strained our family budget.. I felt like I missed out on stuff because of over investment in my older sister.. financially and through support resources of my parents..
Like she soaked up all the emotional support and left nothing for me . .
Not just drained either.. sometimes when I needed it she would tell them some other thing and I end up told off when I needed help. Cast in an unfair light with my sibling faking being upset instead to retrieve some love and warmth.
Eyes got worse when new glasses had only just been bought recently.. for both of them perhaps..
I am concerned that she may've developed a love of being coddled in health care settings and she had extras like this and physio.. I don't know if she pretended for her eyes to be worse for attention..no idea.. had to sit there while she was in appointments sometimes..
I am concerned my neice has been coddled to the extent that she was prevented from developing a normal ability to walk as I was told not to expect any ability but then the kid propped herself up using a coffee table to a standing position. My sister whisked her away and put her in a passive position and had a caught out look on her face.. I thought she would be excited her kid was apparently defying medical estimates ..
if my sister is that unwell then perhaps some abuse happened somewhere idk what these guys style of care is like from the 80s 90s

Added to which, as I am now retired in Waikanae, travelling to Porirua instead of Wellington, makes life a lot easier, for which I am very grateful.
