We stayed one night with Tony in lovely house. The dorm room is in a converted workers room, all single beds! No bunks! :) it is very clean and cosy. Tony takes care to show you around and make sure you know how everything works. He is also a very interesting person and has a huge knowledge of the area, and farming and conservation practices. Worth a visit if you're in the area! Prices are $25 for a dorm bed. And he also sells free range eggs :D

Stayed one night there. Pros: -The kitchen has everything you need for cooking. -The house is warm and beds are comfortable. Cons: - The kitchen is a bit messy. - The owner seems not welcoming Asian people to stay. -Only accept cash. The owner, Tony kept telling us (we are Asians) how the Asian people did something wrong /stupid which we didn’t expect that was the first `greeting ‘ when we just arrived. During our stay, the owner also kept watching us while we were using the kitchen that made us couldn’t feel comfortable;( Not recommend to stay especially if you are Asian.

I just stumbled across this place. Really glad I did. I was lucky to be the only guest as it was not summer but they were fully booked 2 days later. Very homely feel with comfy beds, log fire and a big kitchen to cook your food. No wifi but it's in the middle of nowhere so its to be expected. I forget the owners name but super friendly and knowledgeable about everything you would want to know about NZ. He has also traveled to more places than I think anyone I have met. Really nice chap. 10 bed dorm and private rooms available at very reasonable prices.

This hostel is lovely if you're looking for a homely atmosphere. This hostel is actually in the owner's house, which makes everything very personal. The house is filled with personal touches, memories, photographs, furniture and notes. The vibe is very relaxed and cosy. The downside, you're sharing the house with the owner. So, it's messy, sometimes a bit dirty and dusty. There's hardly space in the fridge, as half of it is for personal use. Also, the kitchen isn't that clean. The sign asks you to do your dishes and clean them up. But the owner doesn't clean up and leaves his dishes for days. Which doesn't simulate guests to do the same, and I can't blame them. I didn't feel comfortable cooking in the kitchen as it was hard to find (clean) space. And when it's busy, it's essential to time cooking in the kitchen because of the small space. Not recommended when you're allergic to cats or dogs. The rooms upstairs are, on the other hand, very lovely, comfortable and very spacious. The view is great. We enjoyed our stay, the price was cheap, the company good, but we just wish it wasn't dirty and messy.

Amazing place. Tony is a total legend when you get to know him and give him the chance to start chatting about his life. Such an interesting man who has had a very interesting life. His farm is stunning. Perched overlooking the alps. No wifi, a real place to get away from it all. You are essentially entering his family home so if you’re expecting anything plush don’t come here. If you want to stay on a farm in rural NZ with an extremely interesting host, a little isolated from everything, this is your place. A real gem, not for the introverted & closed minded.

Wonderful stay. We spent 2 days with Tony, Björn and Frank, the cat, on the farm. It's one of those special places where you feel right at home. Tony is an amazing host, giving us a tour of the farm and sharing stories of his travels. It was a nice change to the impersonal hostel life. The beautiful landscape made it even nicer!

The place is super comfy as you are staying in your host's house. The host is a very friendly, intelligent and talkative person, with whom you can have many interesting discussions. I really enjoyed my stay and hope to come back one day.

This is basic accommodation but comes with a large serving of personality. If you're looking for something a bit different to a normal hostel this is perfect. Also an absolute bargain at $10pp for a camp spot. Phone is the only way to contact Tony. I really hope this place can keep going despite the covid impact so encourage you to go and check it out.
