I was surprised when I saw one of my favourite dishes, Mapo tofu, offered by CJ Dumplings.
Sadly when I came in, I was told that nobody had been ordering it, so it was currently off the menu! The woman at the counter thought for a second and asked if I could come back in a few days. When I returned, she had prepared for me specially a generous bowl of satisfyingly rich, spicy and creamy Mapo tofu.
I added a little Sichuan pepper oil when I got home, and it really hit the spot.
I have also had their dumplings a few times and am excited to come back for some of their regularly updated special menu items like the traditional spring onion pancake.
If you are looking to try something different or challenge yourself with new flavours, I encourage everyone to give Mapo tofu a try. I actually never used to like tofu, but as with many foods, when prepared well, it might surprise you too!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I'm Soo disappointed in our pork on rice and the pork and chive dumplings. I don't usually leave reviews regarding food but this time I had to. Our pork on rice was just yuck. Couldn't even stomach 3 spoons of it, it's the worst meal I've ever had at a restaurant , EVER. The dumplings where burnt. I just don't get it. Thought we'd try something new today but never again. It's best to stick to what you know. Definitely wasted money on tonight's dinner. Baked beans and toast to the rescue. :-(
