Such an amazing day! We got picked up from Russell, waters were calm, crew were welcoming & informative. BBQ buffet lunch was delicious & the hike up the right is totally worth it for the 360 views on the island. Saw & spent time with dolphins and a penguin also popped up a couple times. Going inside the hole of the rock was very cool :) Fantastic day

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Took the day trip from Paihia to Russell and then around the islands, dolphin ? watching and then on to the ‘Hole in the Rock’ or Motukokako Island. Magnificent experience. Like OMG stuff! A must-see, ‘gotta-do’ experience for all ages. Our skipper was knowledgeable humorous and careful all at the same time and he was empathetic to the conservation of the area and wildlife. We saw the lot! For the price - this is truly VFM! (Value for Money) - Excellent job EXPLORE GROUP! ‘Ka Pai!’

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great trip with BBQ lunch. We were unlucky not seeing any whales or dolphins but we got a couple of coupons for free trips in another time. Friendly staff with useful guide and tips of the local islands and beaches.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is my second dolphin cruise, the first was with another company during the summer which did not include a BBQ lunch. I'd say both were equally good.
This cruise was great. The skipper and crew were equal parts funny and informative. I felt they really enjoyed their jobs showing us around even though it's winter low season. In fact I would recommend coming during the winter so the boat is not as full!
The caveat is...it's all weather dependant. Don't book until you know the weather will be good.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Terrible unreliable service. We booked a ferry from Russel to Otehei Bay and return online for 13:10 for $100 for 2 adults. The ferry never showed up. We wasted 1 hour waiting on Russel wharf in the middle of the nice day and on the top of that we spent additional $30 for ferry from Paihia to Russel and back. Explore totally ruined our day in beautiful Bay of Islands.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great experience. Went to and through the hole in the rock, saw dolphins at the very last minute but huge pod that stayed with the boat for ages. Stopped at Otehei for just over an hr. Recommended to take swim wear for the stopover. Captain was funny and knowledgeable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had to go on the trip 4 times to finally see Dolphins, but the guarantee is true, if you don't see Dolphins or whales on your trip you keep going until you do, I got to see many different things each time and created a small friendship with the staff, they are fun and helpful and take care of you, They have a good sense of Humour... Great to see both common and bottlenose dolphins today but sad to not be going again... definitely worth the trip, I highly recommend this company. Not bad for getting a ticket at the fraction of the main price... thank you Explore team ??
