★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Everything about our recent stay was below expectation! At times it seemed like a scene from a Monty Python movie .Issues included coffee capsule machine not working - one of the reasons we booked with Fable , this was not rectified after we reported this on two occasions . Charged for room services when we did not request , the complimentary breakfast was chaotic and stressful for guests and staff , our room was dark and felt confined and definitely not recommended for claustrophobic guests .
The fitout in the hotel felt substandard for what is promoted to guests as a premium historic restoration.
This was capped off by our credit card being overcharged which we discovered on getting home - this was of course not authorised by us.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There is a lot to say about excellence at the Fabel Hotel ... They have managed to keep the old charm of a 1862 building yet providing modern facilities. The unique carpet at the entrance of the restaurant adds to the grandeur. What needs to be said most importantly is that apart from the beautiful decor, the food was delicious. Great chefs & a fabulous restaurant menu (special note of the silver fern eye fillet). What takes the cake though is the list of cocktails and they were prepared and served really well.
A lot has to be said about the friendly, very knowledgeable staff who made my husband & myself feel at home, safe, well cared for during our 3 day stay at the Fabel in March 2022.

Will definitely pick this place again the next time I visit Dunedin and will definitely be recommending it to my friends and colleagues

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed at the Fable in Dunedin on Monday evening in their Mason suite. The room was really tastefully decorated, contemporary, clean and a romantic space for my fiance and I. The staff went above and beyond when we checked in, and then let us use their conference facilities for a work meeting on the Tuesday. Dunedin was very quiet and clearly the hotel could use some extra visitation at the moment - so we can't recommend it highly enough for a really nice stay in the city centre.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fable is a beautifully restored 5-star property in the heart of Dunedin. From the moment I arrived the service from hotel staff was welcoming and efficient. Help with my bags to my room and valet service for my car was highly appreciated. The rooms are designed with quirk and high attention to detail. Bed comfort levels 11/10! I opted to upgrade my breakfast in the morning – note a continental style breakfast was included in my room price – but for an additional $18 I upgraded to an a la carte offering of sausage grill. It was superb and set me up perfectly for the day ahead.
Thank you for a wonderful stay, Fable Dunedin. I look forward to returning very soon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed for a couple of nights at the end of Dec 21.
Great experience- rooms are nicely presented, very clean. The only thing I didn't like was that the room didn't have a view, it ll be great if it was specified on the booking site if there is a view (even if it just a street view) and reflected in the price.
Breakfast included in the booking did look on a smaller side, but turned out to be just right with perfectly warmed up danishes and fruit. So myself and partner were very happy with it.
Restaurant downstairs does great food and amazing cocktails, with staff working there making experience very, very good. Especially a lovely French guy, he was the absolute highlight and black forest cocktail deserves a review of its own.
Overall a very enjoyable stay, with all staff working there being such a pleasure to deal with.
