★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Due to a cyclone forcing us to change our plans, we booked the day before to stay one night as we were doing the Banks Track walk. Very shortly after we booked we got a call to say the track was closed due to flooding. We contacted Heritage Chch right away (about 4 hours after we booked) to explain the situation and cancel our booking. They refused to give a refund but charged us $300+. Greedy, would not attempt to stay here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice hotel. Little bit old fashioned but that works to their advantage. Their health centre is nice but no way to book out the pool or spa which isn't ideal and small kids are also allowed in. Nice facilities and staff friendly. Love the heritage of it also.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Poor maintainence of this beautiful catagory 1 heritage building . bathroom needs major upgrades . repairs- paint peeling off , exhaust has accumulated large amount of ( gothic ?) dust , doesn’t work , mould under the silicon, tile grout missing at places leaving the floor vulnerable for water damage, hair and dust on the clothes dryer in the bathroom. Hope the management acts on these repairs quickly. Furniture and carpets could do with some shampoo to freshen it up.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I booked the Heritage - I am a business traveller and just starting to travel again - I contacted the Heritage as a few of my meetings got cancelled due to the businesses having COVID - I wasn't able to cancel so I thought ok I will go - when I went to travel the next day ChCh had a heavy fog day - all the meetings got cancelled so wasn't worth me travelling - I contacted the Heritage again to say can we simply move the booking a week - I didn't want a refund I just wanted to move the booking - they said I had to pay 100% of the price and if I wanted they could book next week and pay again :( - I asked if I could speak to someone - the assured me the manager would ring me to discuss - to date I haven't heard from anyone. If this is the way they are going to treat business people after 2 years of literally begging people to stay they will have a tough time. These are unusual times that require flexibility - not steadfast rules - they are charging me for a room they could re sell and at a minimum they don't have to service or clean the room - it was a very very disappointing experience

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you like old world charm, this is the place. A spectacular stunning building with not over the top decor. It is in keeping with it's beginnings. Although some renovations were happening it did not affect the service or functionality. Staff very friendly and accommodating. The old tram service that ran around three sides of the building cemented it's authenticity.
