About Koru Vets

Jörg who hails from Germany  experienced what life and work is like in a few different countries before finally settling in the best place in the world – Tauranga in New Zealand. Jörg gained his veterinary degree at the over 200 years old Berlin Vet School, Alexander von Humboldt in 1995 during which time he completed 3 and 4 months internships in Paris and New York City. He worked his first year in Germany, then one year in Spain, having to communicate in Spanish. He then moved to the UK where he worked for the next 10 years. There he developed a special interest in orthopaedics and undertook some further training. In 2000 and 2001 he was running an internal orthopaedic referral service for the London branches of a large corporate practice. In 2001 he moved to Cornwall where he developed an animal charity from scratch, called Cornwall Animal Hospital. In 2004 he set up his own three-centre clinic with a purpose-built hospital as the hub in Cornwall (St Clement Vets in Truro). In 2008 Jörg decided to sell up and move to Tauranga, New Zealand in order to embrace the great New Zealand lifestyle. After re-sitting his exams for the NZ Vet Council – Jörg started a mobile vet service in 2010, using an Ambulance to provide a complete surgical and diagnostic service. In 2011 he purpose-built and opened the Mount Vet Hospital as he was missing to utilise his surgical skills in orthopaedics and advanced soft tissue surgery. In 2018 a second purpose built clinic was opened in Tauriko and both clinics are now called KORUVETS.

Jörg loves the NZ outdoor lifestyle and spends a lot of time exploring nature and loves sports such as mountain biking and is obsessed with snow and water skiing. He owns Abbi the Staffi and Minni Magic the cat, both are rescue animals.

Fast & friendly service. Initially called Kimberley who called in the vet as it was an out of hours "emergency". The vet (foreign guy, sorry didn't catch his name) who helped my cat was well educated and informed me with anything necessary. Super relieved they were able to help my boy out.

We had to bring our dog in due to an accident but Cameron was wonderful and made us feel at ease. Helped make a hard situation easier and we will definitely be loyal customers after the fantastic service we received!

Awful experience! We went with our 2 sick cats to Vet Joerg. Our boy had high temperature, did not eat in days and did not move at all while having a very pale nose. We went to Bayfair vets first and they did a blood test as well as giving him some antibiotics, he got better but not too good just yet and his sister got the same symptoms pretty bad. As we were really worried and still did not know where it comes from, we wanted a second opinion. So we went to Koru vets and we probably will never go there again. When we arrived, the nurse took the temperature of both, weight them, had a look at them and wrote all their history details down. As the vet came, he did that all again, but rough. Our boy was noticeable in pain when he tried to take his temperature. He did not really seem friendly, but I would not care if he is nice to our cats and knowledgeable. Our cat wanted to attack the vet, which is a bad sign. He is the most social and nicest cat on earth usually, with anyone. After he did his check ups, he wanted to keep both cats over night and put them on fluids. As we asked why, he said they will get better to 99% that way. As we said our boy is already getting better, we do not want to put them through more stress especially as the boys temperature has dropped & he starts to eat. Only our girls temperature is really high. He then said, yes he can give her antibiotics that will probably make it better to 70-80%. He diagnosed them with β€œHunting Cat Syndrom” which we have never heard about and could not find a word online. It felt not very knowledgeable and making numbers and names up. Did not give us any confidence to trust. It seemed to us, he only wanted to get more money out of us instead of wanting to help our cats. I would not recommend going there.
