★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Short drive on gravel to the parking. A short walk from there down to the lake. The space in the actual waterside is quite small and can probably only handle 3-4 groups of people. Other sections have been closed off by the council. The lake is nice and clean.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful serene lake - only waded into the water but saw kayaker and swimmers further out where it gets real deep. There is limited access points to the lake. Drive is an hour from Auckland with beautiful views. Donohue Rd (where there's a small carpark about 500m down) is on a bend of South Head Rd where speed is reduced so access is (relatively) easy coming from both sides - view coming from the North is not as clear because it's on a bend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very short walk from the car park to the lake. There is nothing to do at the lake. Two small benches to sit on but no tables. There are also no rubbish bins out there. Lake looks good for swimming and there are signs then tell you about trout fishing there. Lots of mosquitoes and bees around. Be sure to take hay fever tablets as there is lots of pollen around. It is near a deer farm too so lots of nice views when you drive to the place. Would recommend the place for a casual day out.
