★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just off Marine Parade this lovely statue was damaged by the 1931 Napier earthquake and repaired by the Napier people. Has a beautiful lion and soldier at the top.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stumbled upon the statue when we were heading across the road to the soundshell. The statue is multi-layered, the bottom has plaques and then there is a lion holding a shield sitting on top of that. Behind the lion on a much higher pedestal is Lord Plunket. Both the lion and Lord Plunket is white in contrast to the stone grey of the memorial so they stand out quite a bit.
Quite an interesting memorial.
