★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Without a doubt the nicest freedom camping spot i found in my 6 months i had my van. Everything you need except obviously the shower. Numerous phoneboxes, lots of spaces, big sink, fresh water, dump station, tables, rubbish bins. Everything! And 4square, bakeries and dairy just across the road.
The place is also really nice and interesting, carrying the history of the former trainline that used to go through lumsden

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The CLEANEST freedom camping ground we've been in the South Island. The loos were exemptionally clean and no smell at all!!! I'm a bit frugal in giving tips for services, but when I saw the donation box, I didn't give a 2nd thought to donate because of how pleased we were with Lumsden's tidiness. The Four Square store directly opposite the ground was a bonus.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lumsden is super welcoming to campers. Thank you for having this wonderful spot. I met some really nice local people and Europeans during the post COVID times. Every bad stereotype of responsible camping is shattered here. Of anything the big vans are trolling by taking up several parking spots or running their loud engines to you know watch TV. 4 square across the street and a ridiculously cool clothes washing station.

We did find it a bit tight in an 8m caravan though but don't vet us wrong we're very appreciative of the town for being so welcoming to campers, big thanks!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Plenty of parking for large motorhomes and smaller ones, must be self contained . Overnight stay for around 15 motorhomes . Dump station, fresh water and rubbish bins available . Play ground for the kids right there . Essential shops around .
