Makara Peak is home to some of the best mountain bike trails in the world. There's something here for everyone from the easy climb up Koru, a dedicated skills development area to the expert only Vertigo and Trickle Falls. A swing bridge was built in 2016 allowing a new, easy uphill climb to the summit over the aptly named Easy Up trail.

Great mtb. Great tracks. Awesome views. Go up there on a windy day and get blown away with the wind ? at the peak ?. Easy green trails at the bottom of the park for beginners.

Lots of good trails and great facilities. All the trails were well signposted and the views were excellent (on the clear day I was there anyway). Must be great for Wellington residents to have this park so close. Keep up the good work.

One of the best places in Wellington to go and ride. Has evolved and developed over time progressively and is very popular with the local scene. There is a new carpark area with toiliet and shower block (at the time of this review it isn't known if the showers are fully functioning). A myraid of graded trails from G2 - G6, but predominantly are G3 - G4. Check out trail forks for exact details. Currently no deddicated shuttle service so its a hearty climb from the bottom making your way up to the summit (approx 20 - 40mins depeding on fitness and choice of direction), albeit not as agressive in gradient too climb as such it serves well for hill / interval training. Terrain is mostly rock based (no clay / sand or loam like Rotorua) mixed with tree roots and hard pack. It can get incredibly windy at the summit so dress for the weather however its been said that Makara runs well in the wet as well. Overall it is an excellent MTB park and worth a repeat visit or connecting visit with the other Bike areas in the region.

Need some signs with rules at the head of each trail. I came off hard and got concussed because a rider that shouldn't have been on the track, inexperienced and on a harder track, had stopped left the track and blocked the track with his bike... Some basic rules need to be shown as reminders... Don't stop and block the track ...... Etc

Awesome place. AMAZING views and great place for family rides. DOES Need some REMINDER SAFETY signs at the trail heads. For example, NO STOPPING OR BLOCKING THE MIDDLE OF A TRACK..... DON'T RIDE A TRAIL ABOVE YOUR LEVEL OF ABILITY. If you must stop, get off to the inside of the track immediately. I nearly broke my neck in a big accident after coming across a inexperienced rider on a advanced track who stopped and left his bike unattended blocking the bike line of the track, while he went into the bush to help another young fellow inexperienced rider that rode off the track. I crashed into his bike.. Endo'd hard and fast over the handle bars landing on my head, twisted my neck, severe concussion and a trip to hospital and a MRI on a possible broken neck. Very luckily I escaped without permanent serious injury... This time..... PLEASE PEOPLE THINK ABOUT SAFETY ON THE TRAILS. Ride safe, ride considerately, and have fun..... ?
