β β β β β I really love this campsite. It's superclose to National Park village and has heaps of space, also for big campervans. There is water to use (boil first for drinking) and clean toilets. Couple of walks start from here. Very peaceful and quiet. Every time I'm here I'm pretty much only person there. You have to now book this campsite online.

β β β β β Nice spot. For $13 per person you get a composting toilet and an outside sink with cold water.
2 minutes down the road is a camping ground for $18 tenting, $20 campers, with mountain views, soft grass for tenting, hot showers, inside kitchen and an inside dining area.

β β β β β Good lil place i had a really nice night. One of those spots that should be free tho
i see absolutely no reason to pay any fee if im fully self sufficient. The campsites on doc grounds definitely would help kiwis travel more if spots like this were free.
Still tho its a Nice quite spot perfect for starting your journey intonthe wilderness . These pics are from the track leading from the campsite <3

β β β β β Quiet DOC campsite with good parking spots for larger campers/motorhomes. Separate tent site area. Basic toilet facilities that are well maintained. Limited walking opportunities in a lovely sub alpine environment.

β β β β β What a wonderful place to camp and get away from it all. Facilities are excellent and the space is beautiful with the creek and bush, great job DOC you make our wilderness accessible

β β β β β Exceeded expectations.
Basic camp site central to many activities (42 traverse, Tongariro crossing, Fishers track, etc).
Some spots more private than others.
Can confirm Kiwi in the area at night, had a male scratching around under the Land Rover and heard calling at 1am. Beautiful sunsets, sunrise and night sky.
Not the most remote camp site, but a good base.
No issue with paying the fees for these campsites as they help to maintain other DOC facilities such as tracks that are free. Please consider the bigger picture when exploring our beautiful country. Pay the (minimal) fee, take only photos, leave only footprints.
