★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Static displays at the Powerhouse enhanced by a short walk to the Dam. Care needed with little ones as there is a big drop down to the river from the track.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Little known remains of old power house with an undercover information board by the side of the bridge. Short walk on other side of road very pretty.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great example of early engineering in the middle of nowhere. Only the penstock and building left but an excellent information board.
And walk up to the dam. It is only a five minute walk along a bush track but a great view of the river when you get there.
Beware the track is narrow and can be slippery if wet. The area by the dam is also a bit boggy.
Worth the effort for a quick stop to break the journey.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Only came to here to take a photo of a train across the South Rangitikei Viaduct. Highly recommended this location for taking photos of trains. Would be more of a early morning shot than anything else, unless it's a really cloudy day. But definitely recommend for that fantastic photo opportunity of a regular KiwiRail freight train or a Steam Excursion ??. For the Power House itself, not the greatest thing to visit ?♂️

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful remnants of a time gone by... Fascinating for the kids to see what once would have been, and understand a simple example of how power stations and dams work. While the walkway looks tight at the bridge, it opens up immediately, and is a good level trail all the way to the dam. Don't forget to look down at the river along the way... the way it's worn through the rock is amazing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wicked spot for families to swim!! Awesome waterfall! Probably very slipper during winter months ! Very short walk/Easy. Access to the water down the bottom not suitable for all. Access to the top, be careful as it is high.
