A nice gradual incline, all boardwalk stairs but they're nothing too intimidating if you have an average fitness level. 2 hours approx. to the hut and a 10min walk to the tarns from there. If walking in the morning you will be covered under bush for about 1.5 hours as the sun is not directly overhead. I started at 7.30am and reached the tarna just before 9.30am with an average fitness level and light pack. Carpark was quite big and had spaces still when I came back down around 11am.

Amazing view at the mountain top just past the hut and in the middle on the way to the reflective lake. The lake is not reflective in windy days but the view is still stunning! The whole track is very well maintained. I will bring my parents here next time

Nice walk. Took us about 4.5 hours each way. Be prepared for a load of stairs but most of the way is on board walk. I didn't get to see the mountain reflection in the tarn as it was cloudy but we'll worth the walk. An enjoyable day. Toilets at the bottom carpark and at the top hut.

Great track even there are lots of stairs but the view is totally worth it.

Hands down to DOC who laid down the wooden steos all the way up to top and beyond. The view up there is stunning on a sunny day, with bright blue sky and white clouds. The perfect spot for hiking, taking pictures and smell pure Taranaki air. The reflective lake is very popular photo spots. I can see why.

Tons of stairs. Great spot for sunrise/sunset. We went early in the morning for sunrise and we were the only ones on the Pouakai trail. Had the lake view to ourselves. To be honest, the lake up at the top is more like a pond.

Like lots of reviews said, this track has endless steps which will make you exhausted. You have to bear with boring steps and quite a long bush walk for almost 2.5 hours until you arrive the hut. The view is worth only if the weather was good.
