★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Aside from the rubbish others had left and a log burner choka full of ashes and rubbish that I cleaned even though we didn't need it it is a delightful little hut. We got lucky, too, and had it to ourselves

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Long but easy hike. Kids need to be watched as there are many tight edges. Water springs at regular intervals on track.
Well ventilated clean hut in the valley on Waingawa riverbank.
4 hours easy hike for fit person.
I had to push myself because of time and from
Car park: 1:15pm
Mitre Flats Hut: 3:38pm
30m snack break
Mitre peak: 6:15pm
30m at peak
Back to hut: 8:30pm (Sunset 9:13pm)
