★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was once a penal colony. The inmates worked at the copper mine on Kawau island. The remanants of the wharf still remain with Anchorage and swimming right beside. The old inmate camp site is directly behind the wharf and worthy of a walk and look see. The island is right beside Moturekareka island which has a ship wreck.
