★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great place for a quiet walk, cycle and even run. The beach sand is finely textured and gentle sloping. The water is reasonably shallow and normally gentle waves, great for a family picnic with kids and swimming in the summer. The beach is next to The Esplanade so access by car is very easy. Free parking is all along the beach. Handy to Jackson Street for shopping or a bite to eat. Petone rowing club is on the West end, where you can exercise the dogs. McEwan Park is on the East end with Hikoikoi Reserve. Petone wharf off Victoria street is a pleasant place for a walk and popular fishing spot. The Petone Settlers Museum is worth a look for popular and varied displays.
