★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Vibrant and happy place to visit. I was excited with the many options for dinning in this market. I chose the Butcher's Mistress and was happy I did. The Bacon and egg meal was devine! I loved the taste and the flavors the chef put together. The staff is friendly and made sure I was happy. The whole experience in this market is pure fun. I can't wait to go back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Brilliant, this would have to be the best 'gourmet street food' My son and I had the brisket burger and a side of fries. The burgers were to die for, the side of fries were the best I've had, homemade sauce, sprinkling of cheese and nuts. It didn't take a lot of effort to raise the standard of the food!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went to the Riverside Market intending to have a Banh Mi but the stall wasn't open so I stumbled on the Butcher's Mistress by chance and noticed Lambs Fry on the menu. I ordered it without hesitation and was astounded by the quality of the dish chef Elliot whipped up. The depth of flavours packed into the white wine, cream and thyme sauce was truly exceptional. It is without doubt the finest meal of lambs fry I have EVER eaten. Rumour has it the word is out and someone commuted from Auckland to taste it. I can believe it. I was a visitor from Wellington and it will be a priority the moment I return. Even my wife who definitely doesn't like liver was amazed at the sauce and kept coming back for more. Elliot was friendly and personable and the entire experience was a standout of my time spent in Christchurch. It certainly surpassed the well reviewed Italian restaurant we had visited the night before. Brilliant job, Elliot !

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My husband and I traveled down from Hawkes Bay and while looking for somewhere to eat breakfast we could smell something worth investigating. We were delighted to find it was The Butcher’s Mistress. Ryan is an extremely talented man with food being his passion. Lovely friendly lady assistants too. The atmosphere of the place is fantastic. We had the big breakfast (sorry can’t remember the exact name) and what a culinary delight!! Ryan was a pleasure to see work. We enjoyed it so much we went back for dinner the following night and went back again to purchase some of the a grade meat that was for sale. It was a highlight for our trip. Don’t go to Christchurch without visiting the Riverside Market and dining at The Butcher’s Mistress. You won’t be disappointed. I can’t recommend it enough. We will be back ?.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Love the food and the fact it is made right in front of you.....and how the chef engages with the customers and I tried a few small sample dishes while waiting for for excellent steak.
Just comes to show you don't need to go to a high end restaurant for a good meal.
Well worth a try

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Reside in Wellies, "The Butcher's Mistress" creates the worlds best "lambs fry & bacon" better than my mum's... and more as we've worked our way through their menu. The Riverside is our daily go-to - real artisan food, great atmosphere totally wish we had a Wellies version of the Riverside, fingers & toes crossed on that!o! Recommend 110% and more, enjoy folks you won't be disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Asked if they had anything gluten free... Silly question. Most of it was gf. Chef Ryan was great." If it's not gf I can deconstruct it and make whatever you want". We chose pork spare ribs and lamb croquettes. It was great to watch a talented chef who obviously Ioves his work preparing our meals. Friendly, cheerful service. Super delicious food carefully seasoned. We will be back!
