Sal’s Story

1941: Salvatore Leo is born in a little town call Corato in the Puglia region of Southern Italy.

1951: Only 10 years old, Sal immigrates to New York City.

1959: Under the watchful eye of his family, Sal begins mastering the art of making authentic New York pizza by hand by strictly adhering to his family’s well-guarded pizza making techniques and secret recipes.

1975: ‘Sal’s Pizza of Little Neck’ opens and Sal’s legend starts to spread, becoming renowned for some of the finest and freshest pizza throughout the city.

2008: After a number of ‘recovery’ pizzas following a celebratory NYC New Years, the idea of bringing Authentic NY pizza to NZ was born.

Late 2008: Following successful blind taste tests using NZ water on some of Sal’s longest customers in NYC, we prove that NZ WATER WORKS to make Authentic New York Pizza.

2009: ‘Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza’ opens our first store in Auckland, and Brian Leo -’Son o’ Sal and pizza making prodigy’ decides to join us.

Many years later, Brian continues to train and mentor our pizza makers ensuring his family legacy lives on in every slice we serve.

So delicious! Got the half n half pizza with the garlic twists. So much flavor in the pizza, and omg the garlic breads were caramelized on the bottom which made them even better. Yum

Terrible! We have tried to eat here twice, as a treat, because we heard it was great. Both times our meal has been late....today it was 1 hour and 45 minutes late. They had also left out part of the order, the pizza was cold and anything but special. Would never suggest anyone try pizza here and we will never order from here, again.

Good selection of pizza. Bit pricey but big pizzas unlike two other common brands. Willing to go back and try the other flavors and other stuff they sell.

Possibly the best pizza in hamilton, in saying that, there isn't much competition either. Would highly recommend the cheese classis and Nonna though.

Delicious Pizza. Quality is one of the best I've had in NZ. I had a bit of a misadventure on a busy day when I tried to order online. I ordered online and the payment was processing and I get a pop up that says they closed the store due to running out of cheese. Payment went through but I couldn't tell if they received my order. I called 5-6 times and never got an answer. I also tried emailing. I had no choice but to drive up there. I had to park two blocks away and after waiting in line for a bit I told the guy at the counter the situation. They did not receive the order and was told the payment should bounce back and if it doesn't to get in touch. All staff was super nice about it. The only thing I didn't like is I had to order again and then wait a bit longer. It was a 2 hour ordeal trying to get dinner. I was hangry near the end. A coupon or discount would have been nice. Something to remedy no one answering the phone so I didn't have to go up there or carry 2 huge pizzas two blocks. I would've opted for McDonald's but I was there and waited so long anyhow. **Update, received communication from management and they were eager to check in on the issue and I received a refund for the double charge. No free pizza lol but the prompt communication and customer service was much appreciated!!

$35 for a greasy not really that nice New York pepperoni pizza, was told it would take 15mins and they were bang on. Had takeaway, offered no napkins, had to take off the tables instead, more tomato sauce than cheese and there was a strange taste to it, may the pepperoni they used

I liked the atmosphere and the smell of the pizzas getting out of the ovens. We ordered half chicken and half cheese and it was a great combination. It is really large and fed our family of 5. I think it is a great value for the quality and service. It took only 15 min to be ready, which passed really fast while we watched some basketball. Staff was kind and efficient. Will come back soon.
