β β β β β Facilities were good and clean. Slept very well. Friendly and courteous staff. Parking the car, however was totally disorganized. But we got through it in the end.

β β β β β The room was cold although the hall way etc was obviously heated and satisfactory. On complaining to reception I was told to turn the heater up to maximum and it would be OK. I did and it was not. Eventually I gave up and remained unsatisfied.

β β β β β We paid for a suite with a balcony, room was non smoking, however we found a full ashtray of cigarette butts outside on the balcony. Very off putting & disgusting. Bed was uncomfortable as had a large bump down the centre of the bed. Restaurant only open for breakfast.

β β β β β Quite possibly the worst experience I have had with a motel, what was meant to be a fun team building trip turned into a nightmare. We originally booked as a group to ensure we were all togeather and confirmed this with the staff months ahead. Half of our group arrived at 3pm to be told their rooms won't be ready for hours and the rooms were all at opposite ends of a large hotel, where many of us could not access due to the swipe card. An absolute nightmare and will never stay again.

β β β β β We joined friends who were staying at this hotel, for an evening meal at the hotel DINING ROOM restaurant (near Casino), yesterday, May 13. It was the first visit for all of us to this and our first impression was worrying, as there were no other guests at 6:00.
The food: from the very limited menu, we had four different selections. None of us were impressed by the quality of the food. One choice was βcatch of the dayβ which had two very small pieces of cod - not particularly good, as well as accompanying selections. Another choice, one of the steaks ($42) looked nice, but was quite a tough piece of meat and the steak knife was so dull it was hard to cut with. The fries were overcooked to the point that they were soft and mushy and tiny corncob piece overcooked as well. Caesar salad not impressive at all with clumps of anchovies mixed with Parmesan (at least they had both!). A third choice, chicken was very tough according to the person who ordered, but she did not mind the mushy fries. Fourth person ordered Baba Ganouch and Caesar Salad, which did not elicit any negative comments. Our tab was $180 (we did have two bottles of house red wine) but was very poor value for the food.
The server, a lovely lady, was very attentive and did her job very well, so we had no problem with her service!
All in all, we were very disappointed by the entire meal, and apologised to our friends for our decision to eat at the hotel. We thought a four star hotel would have a better chef, though I realise the COVID environment has caused problems in staffing since it arrived in NZ. When we got home, we had to have a big bowl of cereal as weβre still very hungry.
Food and value: 1/10 stars

β β β β β The Hotel is Grand and the rooms are clean and tidy with all the facilities that you require.
Enjoyed the bar and restaurant facilities and the beauty of the Hotel is it is in the heart of Dunedin.
Even better, the price is value for money, which if you are lucky enough could pay for your costs and more by having a flutter up stairs in the Casino.
Loved the stay and the staff are very friendly. Thankyou

β β β β β The room was more than I expected. Everything I needed was available. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that the restaurants in the hotel have a very limited menu. A recommendation, and not a criticism is that it would be great to be able to get Netflix or other streaming services on the TV. This will be my hotel of choice in Dunedin.

β β β β β This stay was good value for money. Cleanliness around the hotel was very good and they do have hand sanitiser widely available on each floor and at the reception desk. Use of face-masks was well monitored and clearly signaled. Parking configuration is a little strange, but it is really convenient that they offer it with a charge as street parking is not easy in downtown DUD.
