★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This hostel is what you would expect from a hostel. It's unpretentious and provides the essentials. I was surprised when I found that the mixed 4 person room I stayed in had a couch and kitchenette. This was a bit of a perk, as I've never stayed in a hostel that has had that for a dorm room. The biggest downside was parking. The hostel has a few spaces down a steep drive. These quickly fill and wouldn't suit a vehicle that is larger than compact. Street parking is a nightmare in most parts of Queenstown, and the street this hostel is on is no different. Besides that, the upstairs kitchen was a bit cluttered. It also would have been nice to have outlets by the beds in my room. Overall, this hostel gives you a decent place to sleep for a decent price.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is terrible. I know I shouldn't expect much, since it is a backpackers hostel after all. But this is by far the worst I have ever experienced. Super old bed with seriously broken springs. Tiny room. One of the benches on the outdoor patio by our room was cracked so badly it will soon break with the weight of a normal adult. The second story railing on the patio was one elbow rest from collapsing altogether, sending some unlucky fool hurdling to the concrete below. This place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. It is a great value, however. That is why I booked it.
The pictures on the website make it look a lot nicer than it is. If you want a cheap, yet uncomfortable, possibly hazardous death trap, this is the place for you. Whoever owns this place hasn't done maintenance in years. I would have preferred to spend more money on a decent hotel, in retrospect. I award you one star and may God have mercy on your soul.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pros: great location, large hostel, very friendly laid back staff, nice vibe and decor. Room was nice and warm with the heater. There is a spa pool but I didn’t see anyone use it. They offer off street parking, which is rare in queenstown so definitely a huge plus. Please note I’ve included a warning about the parking below.
Cons: WiFi was a disaster, very slow and cut in and out dozens and dozens of times. Walls are paper thin and the bunk beds are more shaky than other hostels I’ve stayed at. On my last day I walked in on the cleaning lady and she didn’t bring any linens in or out of the room so I don’t see how she possibly could have changed them, that really confused me. Plus, the floors, couch (especially) and surfaces of the room didn’t seem clean.
A note on parking: the lot is quite small and there are not enough spots for everyone in the hostel. If you want to guarantee yourself a spot, you must come in the morning as people leave. After lunch, spots fill up quickly and they’re all taken by mid to late afternoon. Another warning - the lot is GNARLY. Very very small and tight. To top it off, people squeeze in any little hole, which sometimes makes it impossible to get in or out. If you’re driving a big car or you’re not the best at parking, it may stress you out.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Highly recommend the 3 person room. Got a kitchen, living area, shower and toilet to share between 4 people! On the pricier side but definitely worth it for a more homely feel and a good nights sleep! Staff clean the place up regularly and overall is one of my better stays. Thanks southern laughters!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Actually fairly decent accommodation, but it really depends on who happens to be here at the same time. We were fortunate to have quiet neighbours but the common room was always full of this one group of mean guests.
Pretty good kitchen and the beds are comfy, 4 stars.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ cleanliness: not at all clean bathrooms and shower is gross 1/10
Friendliness: 4/10 receptionist was alright, changed our room type for free.
Room: tiny rooms got a bit claustrophobic, walls are damaged, carpets are disgusting with stains.
kitchen and lounge area: old broken furniture, kitchen counter tops was so gross i did not end up using the kitchen at all for my two night stay. fridge smelled like garbage but had no choice but to store my milk and butter there.
value for money: absolutely bad paid $80 per night for this room. they do however serve free veg soup in winter periods if that justifies anything. my advice stay somewhere else even if its more expensive

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rudest ‘customer service’ ever experienced. Checked into a dirty, grimy room and asked to change to a smaller room after not being happy with the first room. Attendant said we should have known what we were doing and booked a smaller room to start with. She begrudgingly changed our booking and we paid more for the new room. Same deal, dark and gross room and her attitude gave it a really bad atmosphere and vibe. Decided to leave and asked for a refund. Had to argue for it as she disagreed and argued with us. This attendant was the rudest and most impersonal receptionist I’ve ever encountered. Would not have made my dog stay in those rooms, and wouldn’t recommend to anyone. This stay was in March 2020 with another female traveler.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Was not busy so it was lovely time to stay! Good location with backyard parking and clean. I like this old style building. Friendly staff. Its not the cheapest hostel in QT at that moment (some others even with better conditions ) so idk why here they ask guests to bring sheet and cases after to reception...
